Coming from Eurogamer...
Acclaimed Wii RPG Xenoblade Chronicles was a retailer exclusive, so is excluded from NPD's monthly report.
This is the first I've heard of a rule like this. I sure hope that's the case. Unfortunately, it probably means we won't get any sales figures!

Sightly less disappoint
What's up with that?? Sales are sales, regardless of where they come from.
More like hope rapidly reincreasing, faith in humanity unlost but not restored just yet. Still on the fence though. If this is a real rule, then Nintendo knows it, and considering they sold the game in their website, they should publish the numbers themselves. Unless they're bad, in which case I don't think any of us really want to see them.
Since when was this a rule?
So, basically we won't have any sale figure unless Nintendo and/or GameStop share them with us?
I still don't have my copy (well, here in South America is impossible unless I pay a lot of money, and don't think GameStop or Nintendo send games to this region at all), but I hope the sold well.
Does NPD even give numbers anymore, or just rankings? Regardless, Nintendo could release the numbers themselves, I'm sure they have a good idea of sell through. They only need to ask Gamestop for their sell through numbers, then add them to their own.
Anyways, according to VGchartz the game has sold 240,000 in NA, making it the highest performing territory & total sales now over 620,000.
Where are you from? Some retailers had it here in Chile
They only release sales numbers to the people who actually pay for the data. I think VGC might have had something to do with that because the site would sometimes change their sales numbers when it didn't match up with NPD exactly. Originally they were not going to release anything to the public at all, so not even a list of top 10. However, they quickly changed their mind on that one. It is up to the publishers to release the actual sales figures now. Or just go to VGC...

Yah, the NPD seems pretty useless.
Nintendo games don't count in sales numbers. They make HD-exclusive devleopers feel bad for how much they're losing by choosing to ignore the successful console.
All reports indicate the game has sold over half a million, or rather, over 600k copies worldwide. And I would imagine it'll continue to sell, at least for a bit. I'd say it's not impossible for the game to reach 750k, though considering it was only available at Gamestop, it might be too much to expect it to sell a million. But honestly, over half a mil is still pretty good, for a game that didn't have an "blockbuster" type budget like many of these HD console games do.
I think it's been pretty successful, and hopefully The Last Story will be as well.
NPD always made illusions to that. But it never gave out numbers but for the top 10 or so games directly (though more data was leaked on other games by analysts). VGC has always said it made corrections using shipment numbers though i am sure that comparisons were made with any other availbable data. And it, like GoNintendo, is a banned NeoGAF site because VGC's founder disagreed with some GAFers on methodology.
VGC was always more transparent in its changes and until NPD got access to Wal-Mart and Toys R Us dat midway through this generation probably just as good with Nintendo related numbers (Zack and Wiki notwithstanding).
That all being said, not sure why NPD would make up such a rule unless It was requested not to let know how well something was doing (for competitive reasons). It reminds me of when the New York Times had to create a special category for Harry Potter books because everyone else was tired of fighting for second place.

Someone on the Sili thread mentioned that since it's pretty much GS exclusive, they would just be giving out GS sales data, and I don't think they can do that? Or something?
Well, the person said it on the actual comment thread, so it's there if one wants to read it.
