I agree with you. His writing is awful and makes no sense. It doesn't help that the cutscenes keep getting longer too. Plus he knows nothing about American gun culture or even how a gun mechanically works so one of the major plot points that influenced gameplay (gun collecting) and the world in MGS4 was wrong.
He's from a different culture than yours and was inspired as a movie director, what did you expect? And what do you mean by "world"? Because it takes place in 2014, you know?
How badass would it be if Reggie gets up there on Tuesday and just starts ripping through a list of 3rd party games and confirms them all for Wii U? That's what I want.
Teaser for the 3DS game has got me pumped too! This weekend is going to feel like forever.

yea, that would be pretty tits. I think we'll know before that though, if we can get some ninjas into the expo setup, to hunt for logos on material that won't be seen 'supposedly' until after the nintendo presser.

I was very surprised by LoS2's trailer. I was expecting a new character considering the plot twist in the first game but man. I am so excited right now! He's so... BADASS! (And he was already cool!)
At both of you, you guys realize that IGA only made Metroidvanias right? (And by "made", I mean only SotN. He was only a producer on all the rest of them, and I guess dealt with the timeline).
As in, he had nothing to do with the "real" Castlevania games you speak of.
The Lords of Shadow series are a lot closer to the older Castlevanias. The 3DS one is like the Metroidvanias and *gasp* the gameplay is like an upgraded version of what was in Lament of Innocence, which IGA *did* make.
I am still trying to figure out if we're playing Gabriel or that new guy.
I saw a post elsewhere that didn't know *what* it was saying, suggesting that you play Gabriel again, but most of the spoilery explanation seemed inconsistent and like they were just making assumptions (which they have been doing a lot lately).

The older Castlevania games were paced, methodical, challenging, elegant, atmospheric, and filled with simple yet difficult and satisfying 2D platforming and whip combat.
These new God of War games are only "closer" to the original Castlevania games in the sense that they no longer involve non-linear exploration. That is IT.
These God of War clones aren't anything like the classic Castlevanias... They're like God of War.
Thank God I'm not the only one here who sees Kojima as the poor hack writer he is.
Want good writing in a video game?
Go play something made by Tim (GOD) Shaffer, or a decent WRPG, like Planescape Torment.

Kojima's problem is that if he just said something straightforward then people would realize that his ideas aren't very deep or even original which is why he dresses it up with flowery, overcooked dialogue. The guy has NO idea of succinctness and the mainstream media needs to stop pampering him.

Yeah, LoS just didn't FEEL right and wasn't any fun. It was just monotonous, soulless, and unoriginal

I.E. They lack ANY personality. Let's face it, if LoS hadn't had Kojima slapped on as the spell checker no one would have given a damn about it.

Unfortunately he would be CRUCIFIED if he ever wrote a movie like that because he keeps breaking one of the fundamentals of movie-making: show don't tell. All he ever does is beat his audience over the head with redundant dialogue instead of just showing information and lets scenes drag on and on instead of starting them as late as possible and ending them as soon as possible.
Why so much hate for Lords of Shadow? I thought it was a truly terrific game that we just don't see enough of these days. I do not agree that Castlevania -needed- to pull out the 'darker and edgier' reboot card but Lords of Shadow turned out terrific. The production value was sky high and the inclusion of Patrick Stuart and Jason Isaacs really made it something extra special.
Lords of Shadow is a game that I've owned for almost a year and just got around to playing last week. After I started I could not put it down and finished it with every gem in three days time. I just could not stop. Between the personal plight of Gabriel Belmont that one genuinely feels sorry for (another rare trait), to Patrick Stuart narrating each and every level opening, I can see absolutely no reason why this game deserves the hatred it gets.
The reasons it took me so long to play was both the demo and not liking the idea of rebooting the Castlevania story. The demo was awful and is a perfect example of doing nothing to advertise your game's strong points. Castlevania was a series that can just do no wrong in my eyes. I've never played a Castlevania I didn't like. The GBA, PSP, and DS games stayed top notch all the way and I saw no reason to reboot the franchise and risk coming out worse. It's not like we're dealing with the Sonic series here. The plot lines just weren't that hard to follow so why reboot things right now?
I was also very upset that the series' veteran composer wasn't involved but this lasted only until I found that: A) Michiru Yamane quit Konami in 2008. B) the new soundtrack is gorgeous.
I love the soundtrack to Lords of Shadow. It's fantastic and deserves recognition, not dismissal because it wasn't composed by the same person who usually composes the Castlevania scores who quit Konami in 2008. I will admit though that when backtracking for gems through levels that I'd already played (and when one of my favorite Lords of Shadow songs wasn't playing) I hooked my iPod up to the Xbox and turned on some Castlevania IV, Symphony, or Ecclesia action. For a game that 'has nothing to do with Castlevania' (an opinion that to an extent I share and agree with) you'd be surprised just how well Michiru Yamane's scores fit with Lords of Shadow.
I get the idea that most (which is a different word from "all", so don't even try.) of the people who dislike Lords of Shadow either dismissed it immediately with "lol god of war clone" or played the demo just so they could say they have a reason not to like it. As for the lack of 'Metroidvania' style exploration, if you want that go play a 'MetroidVania'. You only have about twenty to choose from so you shouldn't have any problem. Castlevania started as a completely linear experience and it's refreshing to go back to it. Go watch EgoRaptors "Sequelitis" videos on the CastleVania series to learn why linear gameplay isn't some inherently evil thing that turns every game into Final Fantasy XIII. I'd also like to point out that running down the 'linear' path of each stage will not get you the gems that increase your life and two separate magic meters. You have to explore to find those. If that's not enough exploration for you, fair enough. I'm only pointing out that exploration is a factor in Lords of Shadow.
The game is good. It's worth playing especially at whatever price they've got it at right now. It was an absolute steal at the $20 bucks I payed for it. It blows my mind that there are people out there who hate it so much.
Also, Lords of Shadow 2 had an amazing trailer. I almost teared up but peers were present so I held it back like a grown up. I'll put my thoughts on the second game inside 'spoiler' tags since they do indeed spoil the first game.
Spoiler:
Seeing Gabriel as a villain was heartbreaking despite the ending of the first game revealing it would happen. After Gabriel's speech about redemption and forgiveness his fate to wander the earth forever as an immortal is incredible. I absolutely cannot wait for this game and the gameplay improvement that it will bring with it. Even if you didn't like it, the game gave a solid platform for this well-deserved sequel to jump off of.
The concept art shows Gabriel with a sword this time and the trailer showed him using the successor to the Combat Cross which makes me wonder if they're bringing in features from the MetroidVania games (equipment like weapons, armor, and accessories). This would make sense with the inclusion of Alucard. Since the lack of exploration (on some large, gameplay defining scale like everyone wanted) was such a huge "problem" with the first game it wouldn't surprise me to see a heavier emphasis on it in LoS2 and Mirror of Fate.

I'm afraid you're wrong there. In regards to the gameplay Lords of Shadow continues right where Super Castlevania IV left off. Even if it does remind you of God of War, I have no idea why you insist that the combat is all there is to define the entire game. Castlevania IV introduced swinging from the whip. Lords of Shadow kept that and added rappelling down cliff sides from swinging points, running up cliffsides from swinging points, running alongside a cliff Prince of Persia style from swinging points, and jumping off of walls from swinging points. This is not only a natural evolution from Castlevania IV's gameplay but also adapting it into 3D environments incredibly well.
Also from Castlevania IV is the ability to whip in all directions. Having two buttons for horizontal and vertical attacks is just another evolution necessary after the jump to 3-Dimensional environments. Is it like God of War? I have no idea. I won't touch God of War with a ten foot pole but I will say that I can recognize every single element of Lords of Shadow as a direct evolution from the linear Castlevania series before MetroidVania's took over the franchise. "Like God of War" or not Lords of Shadow is exactly where Castlevania would be if Symphony of the Night hadn't completely changed things around. This is all ignoring previous 3D Castlevania titles that predate God of War. Lords of Shadow wasn't perfect but it deserves far better than it usually receives.
Yeah, Kojima's writing is all over the place, but the stories are entertaining and a great addition to the most important part of the game: the gameplay. And the gameplay in MGS is top-notch, no way around that.
Speaking of Metal Gear, Revengeance looks amazing. Platinum+Kojima? This game is going to ROCK!
well i had a good e3 buzz going and you killed it. lol
Lords of Shadow 2's trailer is amazing.
And Metal Gear Rising looks awesome, even if I am not a fan of Cyborg Raiden.

Metal Gear Rising is still being made by Japan.

Lords of Shadow 2. Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. My whole year is set. Nothing else matters anymore.

what a useless shovel trailer
It wasn't really for Nintendo, and I think many people are excited about the Zone of Enders HD Collection.
@able_to_think
Not sure you understand the fact that MGS4 is an alternate reality future where guns *do* work like that.
And almost positive Kojima isn't even working on Rising anymore, so his scripts have nothing to do with that, I think.
@Windsor
This.
@led-naruto
This too.
Zone of Enders HD and Lords of Shadow 2 are what excited me. Metal Gear Rising's gameplay was awesome as well.
It's just not the same......
I hope we get at least some gameplay and artwork at e3
Not a very interesting conferance for me. I'd love to see some actualy footage of Castlevania, though. I hope Ninty has some to show of it~

These announcement "trailers" are the most pointless wastes of time in video games. If you aren't going to show gameplay, don't show anything.
Mirror of Fate will likely be rated M for Meh.
So disappointed by the lack of Iga...

Do you feel the same way when Nintendo does that (like with Brawl and I think Other M did it)? Genuine question. You weren't excited?
