THQ's new president not interested in Darksiders III?

Here's what THQ president Jason Rubin had to say about Darksiders II...

"Darksiders 2 is very interesting but I think I can get that team to make other very interesting games."

With a comment like that, it seems like Rubin isn't all that interested in continuing the universe. If that's true, I think it's a damn shame!

Well, they are looking into the F2P market, maybe it is related to this.

This Rubin guy is starting to look like the worst thing that's happened to fans of some of the THQ games. I mean, seems like he's making the games he wants to play.

@NeroSuferoth I was looking forward to seeing how they interpreted Pestilence myself.

That said though, maybe see if the sequel outsells the original or not first before calling time on an IP, Jason?

I really don't see f2p games being very profitable @ddddd I don't know why companies continue to make them.

or he is running a company that was inches away from not being able to make any of these games for the "fans".

if he feels, that as a company, a shift in focus is needed, so be it.

No wonder THQ is going under.

if the game sells, there will be a sequel. simple as that.

I don't think comments like that should happen until after the game is released.

He also said that Saints Row 3 was an embarrassment. In other words, this guy is clueless and is going to end THQ for good if he fails to realize that Saints Row is probably the main reason THQ is still alive and relevant.

The more comments that I read from him, this Rubin guy is starting to sound like a real idiot. He wants to take the humor of out the next Saints Row, ah hello, you're not RockStar with GTA, and you're never going to be. So don't even try, because you know you will fail, and probably bankrupt the freaking company! Wasn't DarkSiders meant to have 4 games for all 4 Horsemen? Why would you stop it, in the media of that vision?

And why would you tell people this, only a couple of months before DS2 comes out? You want people to give up on the franchise, so they don't buy DS2 on purpose? Because that will happen. Why would people invest into the franchise knowing that its could be prematurely over? This guy sounds no better, than the people who were there before him. It was mismanaged then, and it sounds like its being mismanaged now. At least from the way this guy is talking, but than again it could just all be new guy talk, and half the stupid things that he's saying might never really happen!

Jason Rubin is a famous developer and was at Naughty Dog and worked on/was the creator of Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter up until Jak 3. Actually he is one of the founders of Naughty Dog, and was booted from his own company for telling the truth about the game industry at Dice a few years ago. How so many people are ignorant of who this man is, baffles me. Also how can someone say "no wonder THQ is going down" He just got there, and he's not the cause. Blame the last president. If anything I'd expect Rubin to turn THQ around. Saints Row 3 was good, but they the milking with the DLC and the corner cutting development along with the lack of replayability that Saints Row 2 had, is what killed it. May have sold great, may have gotten great scores but it more boring that Saints Row 2, which wasn't boring at all. They need to take that engine back to the drawing board also.

As for the Darksiders thing, I hope it's not true.

yes. thq does need this kind of tough love to get back on the right track. but telling people 'hey, we're not gonna continue this series, so don't bother buying the second entry' isn't helping.

Saint's Row and Darksiders 2 are their best franchises. Most successful franchises. It's like someone buying Nintendo and deciding that since he didn't really like those games, despite their success, he's going to make the devs stop making them.

Devs of popular franchise: Not making a sequel, focusing on new stuff.

Gamers: NO, MAKE A SEQUEL. >:'( What a waste!

As long as THQ doesn't own, whoever makes Darksiders (or the license for it) they shouldn't have a problem finding another publisher. But let's not count our chickens before they hatch.

Vigil is owned by THQ so if he says they're not making it, they're not making it. I didn't like SRIII. I thought the humor was juvenile and dumb. However, Darksiders is a fantastic franchise and is something that THQ really needs to be successful. Keep making those games and I'll keep buying them.

That sentence is not really polite or smart. I understand that he has new projects on his mind but he sounds arrogant; sounds like he is saying "I have better ideas". I'm sure he has but he should not say that kind of stuff in public, when members of his new team stayed years of their lives working on this project while having economic problems. If you have any problems with your team or "better projects" you close the doors of your company and talked to them in private. That kind public statement just hurts your own product, specially in a moment when THQ needs all the money they can get and the second Darksiders is not out yet; I'm sure nobody on their team wants to hear that right now and it doesn't help the company in any way.
Being honest and being rude are not the same thing.

Sounds like madness to me...

he probably should spend less time talking to the media and more time finding money in THQs sofa.

He never said "Never make Darksiders III", he said "make other interesting games". Since when does a developer need to make an entire series in a row? Has that ever been the case? For all we know they'll make another Darksiders after something else...
