Here's some more rumors that supposedly come from a GameStop employee in my home state of NJ...
- Wii U is to release the week of Black Friday 2012
- Wii U Pre-Orders planned to open next week
- Certain titles such as 'Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition' are listed as $49.99 and are not estimates
The week of Black Friday does seem like a sweet spot for release in the states. I'd love to see the Wii U release the week prior, if only to allow Nintendo a jump on that Black Friday rush. Thanks to Ken for the heads up!
UPDATE - Here's a look at the GameStop price listing. Obviously, some of these are placeholders. Supposedly the $49.99 are the real deal.

The ones priced $49.99 are that price on other sites too such as Target and Amazon.
Totally agree with Mass Effect 3 being overpriced, they should have that as a GOTY edition and include some future DLC. If it's the same as the 360/PC/PS3 then anyone with those platforms would ignore the Wii U version for how much it is during the Black Friday sales...I mean it's CURRENTLY $39.99 for those platforms!
i can't see it releasing the week OF Black Friday as that's never been a good idea as history has shown. It''ll probably be out before then.
I wasn't planning on getting Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, but now I know I won't. I'm really fed up with EA recently.
Hope that's not the case. If this turns out to be true I'm just going to order one online because I'm not going to pick up this thing at the store on Black Friday. The mall will be a zoo.
Getting a black Wii U on Black Friday event? Sounds cool. I emailed Nintendo again about the Wii U colours, asking what colours are going to be a launch, and is it both black and White, or one colour then the other later....the guy emailed back with this comment.
"In regard to your question about the Wii U, I can confirm it will be available in both Black and White for the systems launch. As a reminder, everything we have available to share regarding Wii U is on our website."
The guys said both colours at launch...not around launch or launch window. I am more confident that we will get a choice of colours at launch.
A Black Friday launch would be ridiculous and horrible. It might seem like a good idea because, hey, people are out shopping anyways. The problem is, Black Friday is the start of Christmas shopping season, and Nintendo doesn't want their new shiny consoles locked in a closet for a month.
WiiU will launch sometime before Thanksgiving for the same reason the Wii launched the week before Thanksgiving break. That way, friends and family can play it over the holiday and it can create a stir for Christmas.
My money's on 11/11; Nintendo launches systems on Sundays and this would allow just under 2 weeks for both unit replenishment and word-of-mouth hype before Black Friday.
I have to keep people in line, you know?
And it's the week of Black Friday, meaning the Sunday before. Just like Wii. Just like Skyward Sword. Just like DKCR. Just like NSMBW. Just like Mario Galaxy.
I'll be happy for $50 games again
@Jazzamattazza
Please read the article carefully. It says the week of, not the day.
Ha! Yes sir, you are indeed correct. I remembered the Wii launch as the 15th or 16th or something weird o_O;;
NVM then, Sunday before Black Friday -- the 18th sounds right.
@Delta46 Sorry :/
@Jazzamattazza
It's perfectly fine, just be sure to read everything carefully before you jump to conclusions.
LEGO City: Undercover for $99=???
Someone got trololololled!!!
I get that the Nintendo 1st/2nd party titles would get a "placeholder" $99 price tag, but $99 for a 3rd party game, especially a LEGO game (those games are sometimes below a consoles "set" price line), is absolutely ridiculous.
I'D PAY $599 US DOLLARS FOR NINTENDOLAND SIR
>_>;
"Only" $49.99 for a year-old game doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.
so most likely november 18th or 20th
Nintendo launches on Sundays. It'll be the 18th. 99% sure at this point.
It's a bad move! Who is Nintendo trying to reach with a more powerful system? The people who care about such things are already dropping $100 on Halo 4 and $100 on COD. now Nintendo want us to drop another $300 on a new system...and that's without a new game.
@bearded OTP ...what?
Black Friday is Nov. 23rd.....the week starts on Sunday....Nintendo traditionally releases hardware on sundays (and big title games). The sunday beginning the week of Black Friday is Nov 18th.....most likely the release date right there.
Is this a lunch line-up list? Damn, I counted 10 games I want already! This is shaping up to be quite the console launch.
Im calling the 11th or 18th of Nov. The first party titles may cost $69.99 hench all the seperate boxart and whatnot. The system my guess would be $329.99-$349.99 this is the future people, I wouldnt be surprised if gamepads are $69.99-$99.99 and pro controllers $39.99-$49.99. I'm prepared to pay these prices because I kinda expected it, bein next gen and all.
Patcher said Nintendo fans will buy anything
I am probably end up getting:
Pikmin 3
Tekken Tag Tourtement 2
New Super Mario Bros U
and if is not a 18 rated game (I know it will be)
ZombiU
Then just preorder it and pick it up when the Black Friday crowd dies down later on. (provided this release data is true)
black friday means nothing in europe, stupid release planning
