I threw some questions out in the ether and the response to the whole ME3/METri thing appears to be "EA did not expect Wii U owners to buy Mass Effect, anyway, so no point in porting over three games. If ME3 sells gangbusters, they'll consider it a proper summer home for Mass Effect."
I could definitely see this as being true. EA having little faith in Nintendo fans. Don't they get that their lack of support and trust is what gets them in the end? They're shooting themselves in the foot. Now when ME3 doesn't sell on Wii U, they'll think that they were right all along, never to realize that people didn't buy because of the lack of the trilogy compilation in the first place. Thanks to Dim for the heads up!

They're still laughing because the DLC included on the WiiU Mass Effect 3 was ALREADY FREE TO THEM.
As I already said weeks before, ME3 on Wii U is worthless.
If they really wanted to push Wii U, they had to release a full fledged ME-Trilogy for all those who are new to ME. Launching the 3rd Game of a Trilogy of one gen which is a one year old title for a brand new console, they can be sure it won't sell - especially at their freaky pricepoint.
ME3 is shovelware now and should be sold at $19.99 on launch day for Wii U !!! Then there will be a chance to sell a lot of units of ME3 to a lot of new consumers, which may be tend to buy a ME-Trilogy for another $39.99 in 2013.
Marketing is so easy, if you didn't have a bachelor or master in it. Logical thinking and a bit of experience is all you need.

If 3rd party games had even a remote history of actually selling on Nintendo systems this would not be a problem.
The fact is, most Nintendo consumers care about Nintendo games and nothing else. Nintendo deserves this for arrogantly thinking you broaden your 3rd-party lineup by just nonchalantly picking a few old sequels, porting them with superficial updates, and calling it a day.
Was the extended ending not paid for? I thought bioware did it because of feedback and wanted to charge for it.... or am I mistaken? Still I like the idea of the gun and touch controls. Plus I get to stream it when the television is taken. And I get to play it on nintendo. It justified £50 for me. Hopefully it sells and we get part 1 and 2 but right now I'm more concerned about the effects this has on dragon age 3 possibly coming.
captfalcon99 get the facts right first buddy. Ps3 owners were handed this and laughed it off. It didn't sell on ps3 either. The fact is that mass effect original port will be completely shoddy and all of this porting (no matter what system) is just one last cash in before they move on. Ps3 owners didn't buy mass effect when it was given to them so your generalizations are completely wrong.
Truthfully mass effect didn't sell on anything except 360 and thats why microsoft boasted about it.
Or do you truthfully think ea is putting effort into this original version on ps3 and that the trilogy will suddenly sell? Both sets of users have moved on from mass effect. I bet you that the trilogy on 360 sells more than the trilogy on ps3 and mass effect 3 on wii u combined. Ps3 owners themselves don't care anymore. This was really only destined to sell well on xbox.
I'll buy ME3 if that means Wii U will get the trilogy next year.
I'd buy ME3 on Wii U, if I could get it for about 25 bucks or cheaper... it's a port of a year old game, with little added incentive, and the third piece of a story in a series I've never played before.
I would buy the trilogy day one on Wii U at full price, no questions asked. I've heard great things about the series.
The 1st Mass Effect is coming to PS3 as a Digital download and it will get the Trilogy at a later date after PC and 360, EA/Bioware now have rights to it, which is a joke that its not coming to WiiU.
Posting what I said in the forums:
"You see, Western and Eastern devs have a very different design philosophy. Western companies prize value in better visuals, story telling-techniques, and conveying photo-realism. EA knows this is where their audience is and will move to and knows this is what they are best at making money off of. To support the Wii U would be foolish from a business perspective despite however many fans would like them to lest they find them evil and greedy. When the Durango and Orbis hit and their teams turn their development to them creating smaller teams to work on lesser ports/original games would be dangerously costly. Sure it cost less to develop those games but you still need to hire a team, produce the game, market it, and hope to God that your audience isn't trapped on the two more beastly hardware options (and trust me, they will be because that's EA's audience.) While certain games like Madden will always have a market, porting a game like ME4 (or whatever the next ME game is) with a downscaled version would just be ineffective and see minimal returns. This is also why they've released the trilogy on those brands and not Wii U. The trilogy will scoop up those who missed out so when they inevitably buy a PS4/720, EA has cornered them as new consumers.
So in this case with ME3, they are simply trying to profit off of the holiday season with a gigantic brand on every console, including Wii U where many will be so excited to grab a new console turn around and think "Oo! Mass Effect 3!" and nab it. It doesn't need to sell a lot, the game is already made so they can see extra revenue roll in. It's a profit deal. When it doesn't sell super well they can also use that as rational (after taking their money) to abandon the hardware in pursuit of more cost-effective options.
It's not necessarily stupid or greedy as people want to believe, it's just good for their business and employees' continued careers. They won't be able to function as profitably if they send resources to a place where nothing will sell. Ask many GoNintendo users and I'll bet most of us don't care for their titles in the grand scheme, thus, their titles won't sell on our platform of choice.
Wii U is going to have to find new consumers through hardcore gamers lusting for a change of pace. So far every title that has been made FOR the Wii U and not ported over feels far less soulless and more inventive that titles we've seen on either of the 3 platforms for the last 7 years. It's a market earning for those kinds of experiences it has to corner. EA won't produce that, because EA won't see returns on that. No one's really the bad guy here, it's just how the ball bounces."
It's sad but actually, for once, they're right. As a gamer I want the trilogy, from a business perspective, no one was going to buy it but impulse shoppers and their new consumer couldn't follow the series to a new console once the next generation is completely in full-swing.
The thing that doesn't make sense about this though is if they really didn't think it would sell it wouldn't be on there in the first place. Unless its ultra cheap to port they wouldn't have bothered in the first place I don't think.
It is ultra-cheap to port. Though they are investing enough time to put in gamepad controls/features. The real crux of the matter is the holiday season. While I think personally I'd like to see it delayed and the trilogy made for it, the fact of the matter is this has already been pushed out of launch day and into the launch window. If they delay it any further to rework both Mass Effect and the second to work with the gamepad they'll miss the holiday season effectively destroying the few potential sales they have for the cheap port.
I'll be carrying on my Mass Effect profile on the xbox, and probably get into AC on the 360 too...
The extended ending and most (if not all) the multiplayer DLC was free. Leviathan, From Ashes, and the upcoming Omega DLC are the only ones that cost money,
So then why don't you go tell GOMicrosoft.com instead of wasting your efforts here
I'd come up with a reasonable response, but I don't think you warrant one, so shut up :)
Well, I think at this point the game will flop either way. People will overlook it in favor of other third party games like ZombiU, ACIII and even Just Dance 4. NG3 and Batman might do better than it.
This is one of the Worst bussiness decitions i have ever seen in the game market, its so freaking stupid, why not release the trilogy on the wiiU, Ninte do fans like myself have never played mass effect i would buy this trilogy at oce, but now im not gonna buy neither the trilogy on ps3 or mass effect 3 on the wiiU, go fuck yourself EA!
It's really hard to buy a product when another selection gets one three times as good at almost the same time.
well if there were ever a time to say it : self-fulfilling prophecy .
It's clear the game is not going to sell at all , it's going to be the biggest bomb from a heavy lineup , while codblops2 will probably end up the best selling third party game . It's the most disrespectful thing they ever did to a nintendo platform and that's saying a lot . And this time they royally screwed the partner developer , like big time , first home system game and abysmal sale .
And yes respect is a big word , but then again when you treat consumers that way , don't expect any refrain . From all the third parties behavior against nintendo , it might be the worst or second worst to re4 . No really , in one announcement they clarified how they stand on wii u , squashed every reasonable rumor of nfs , and well it's just one step above ea's dreamcast support .
what i think happened actually is .... well i don't know , i was going to say the port should have been cheap enough and they realize they could do the same with the me1 for ps3 . meh i don't see any reason to put one third of the trilogy for the same price as the trilogy nope really that's even worse than mgs . A little bit worse, because for the longest time the port was supposed to be a new ish game , it didn't but at least it's in glasses less 3d .
even if the quick move on to durango orbis is true, it still doesn't make any sense to sabotage their own game , nobody is going to buy it on wii u , there's no profit possibility now ..... well if they manage to do any profit with that , that's excellent news actually because any ea games will sell more than me3 wii u and that would prove the port cost nothing .
and please , are third parties so unsure about their own brands they think they can't sell games ? the ratio is not different , thanks to the userbase they sold way more games . Does EA truly really think they cannot top awful shovelware games ? yes they can , it's pure logic . Like gta , ff , battlefield will suddenly lose all sales potential , it's just ridiculous
No , honestly as it has been said , it defies logic , common sense and truly demonstrate the grudge many people got against nintendo . Bayonetta 2 did it first , but now it's reaching the final form , that yes the publishers are eggheads devoid of basic reasoning . Which we all knew but now it's official .
@Shaanyboi
What he said 100%.
So another "litmus test" like Dead Space Extraction so EA can justify not supporting a Nintendo console. Great.
For more fun, everyone should take a look at the list of titles they've put for the 3DS.
Christ, can't this stupid company get over it's little grudge from the 80's?
So freaking dumb. Of course ME3 by itself won't sell. People who actually want to enjoy the series won't want to start with the third game in the trilogy.
But deny them the Trilogy collection, something that makes the most sense for new-comers to Mass Effect? The most backward-ass thinking I've ever heard.
It really sucks for Nintendo-only gamers, too, because they're really missing out. The Mass Effect Trilogy was very enjoyable overall, stupid ending aside.
Indeed. Why even bother buying the 3rd game when you can get all 3 for the same price? Their logic is laughable. They will defensively use the game selling poorly as an excuse to not bring the Trilogy over. The only problem is that they are the case of it not selling in the first place. I don't understand why they bothered with ME in the first place... -_-
I was still going to buy mass effect 3 anyway. I like the idea of playing it on nintendo. And I don't think it will be the deciding factor in ea support. If mass effect 3 tanks (which it will) provided they see games like zombi u, call of duty or assassins creed do well they will then question underestimating them.
And it makes sense they would dedicate resources to durango but I don't buy it with orbis. Why would anyone put blind faith in anything sony do anymore? They have been behind more times then they've been ahead. Why would ea shove so many resources to the successor of a console which fell from top straight to bottom? Why would they throw so many games for a company who have to rely on third party franchises to sell their systems aside from one car game series? Ea themselves said that they are seeing less sales on ps3 now then pc. The trust in sony is going and it is obvious from the whole vita stance.
Could possibly be another Op. Rainfall-style movement underway cause of this...
