Sumo Digital was asked about voice chat in Sonic and All-Stars Transformed after the Wii U voice chat news came out. Here's what Sumo Digital had to say.
We don't support voice chat on WiiU for those reasons, one of the side effects of being a launch title basically.
Maybe if the game gets another sequel, we can hope for some online chat. Not this time around, I'm afraid. Thanks to Autosaver for the heads up!

Wouldn't have this problem if there was a universal party system like the 360...mumble mumble...
So they don't have time to add voice chat. Silly, but such is life. Maybe they can patch it sometime and add VC?
Oh NOOOOOOOO!!! This game is ruined now because of this!
It's not just because of time.
If you're a multiconsole owner, it's one less reason to own the Wii U version. Why buy the version with less features? I've said this before on another forum: Nintendo is third parties' worst enemy.
We should form a fan movement for them to implement voice chat in a later update! It will at least show Nintendo we want online voice chat in Smash Bros U and Mario Kart U
@cbbomb "one of the side effects of being a launch title"
OH you!
I'll still pick it up on the wii U if at all. I never use voice chat on the 360 nor the ps3 when i had it, this doesn't affect me. Shame that the game doesn't support it for those who want it though, they probably need more time to implement it.
@cbbomb
What other reasons are they. They said the lack of VC was since it was a launch title...
No excuse. AC3 Mass Effect and Black Ops all have voice chat.
Funny how you missed the just in It's not just because of time .
"We don't support voice chat on WiiU for those reasons..."
As in, lack of time AND the other stuff. I too don't care about voice chat. What I do care about is third party support.
Well at least the game supports local voice chat.
@cbbomb It's more of a time thing, the wii U version needs all the time it could get to just run properly since it seems that they started the port pretty late. They said "one of the side effects of being a launch title" meaning that if they had more time they could have implemented it. I also don't get what this has to do with 3rd party support anyways.
edit: Yes, i would imagine if Nintendo had cross game chat like the 360 implemented at a system level then this game would support it, for now it seems like the the voice chat is similar to the ps3 one for now, unless Nintendo wants to update it.
Voice Chat isn't needed for Racing and Fighting games anyway.
Guess I'll get the 360 version then.
I wonder if Nintendo even supplied devs with their online strategy, if they have any...
@Chosenoneknuckles You seriously said that...
Awful news. I was planning to get this version since it was first announced, but now I'm not so sure. I might still get it, it just depends if the extra Wii U content is worth it.
I'm at least glad they said this ahead of time and not make us find out the hard way after we bought it.
The game isn't ruined BUT IT WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE TO HAVE. I don't care what anyone says Nintendo tries to get better but then they do something stupid.
Well, unlike FPS Multiplayer, you can't really do strategy like that in a Racing or Fighting game, so yeah, I see no gameplay benefit it'd bring.
Considering I'd only want to use voice chat with friends, and all my friends have Skype... yeah, doesn't matter to me. I'll probably get the PS3 version though.
Looking at stuff like this, I just keep coming back to - stupid
man, if the wiiu had a system level voice chat feature, this wouldn't be an issue.
I do not care either way.
It's true that not all games need it for strategy or coordination but it's always nice to talk with friends while playing. This seriously stinks.
...and not a single care was given by me. Seriously though, most of the time, the last thing I want is to be carrying on a conversation while i'm trying to play a game. But, I do understand that this is a big deal for some people so yea atleast having the option would be nice. I'm still getting this for Wii U
The Wii U version still has more content than the others.
Since content matters most to me, I will get the Wii U version.
I wonder how gimped the PC version will be?
