THE PRICE OF THESE TITLES ON CONSOLE? $9 FOR SNES? $6 FOR NES? WTF IS WRONG WITH THEM? WHO THE HELL INCREASES PRICES ON THEIR GAMES?

I'm sorry but this is beyond idiotic. I beseech everyone here, on my hands and knees, please, PLEASE don't support this BS. I want classic titles on my WiiU as much as anyone, but INCREASING the prices from Wii to WiiU? Bite me Nintendo. Just bite me.

They're not increasing the prices. The ones that were 500 and 800 points will still be $5 and $8. The select few that were 600 and 900 points are the ones that will be $6 and $9.

And it't not charging to "update" it's charging to update. Someone has to be paid to change to code to add Miiverse, off-TV play, and customizable controls. $1-$1.50 isn't asking much.

That still doesn't make it ok!

Sony would give us credit to buy the games.

So glad you people are so entitled, you'd rather people not get paid for their work just to save a quick buck.

Sony literally gives PSN credit way for an email address on a regular basis.
This how I got quite a few PSN games for free when I had a PS3.

Quit implying Nintendo showed "hardcore" games today.

Never did, actually. But they did. Oh wait, I'm sorry, you think if it doesn't have blood and swearing, it's not "hardcore."

No...

What about Yoshi, Wii Party U, Lego City, Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, etc... makes you think they are "hardcore"?

You don't need blood and swearing to be "hardcore", you need realism, graphics, Western focus, difficulty, etc...

This ND was intended for "casuals" and Nintendo fanboys.

You lost me at realism, but the rest of those are equally ridiculous and highlight everything that is wrong with the industry today.

And if you think Pikmin lacks difficulty, you obviously never tried to 100% Pikmin 2. And if you think it lacks realism and graphics, I just don't know what to tell you.

And I love how you excluded Bayonetta 2 and Monolith's game from that list, like you knew it would kill your point.

We're back at 'hardcore' now? Oh lord.

And I really don't see how Pikmin is less hardcore than any blood-splatting FPS out there, for obvious reasons.

Ah, whatever, people can think whatever they want. Nintendo have an amazing lineup, though we have yet to see Mario/Mario Kart/Smash/Zelda etc. Bring on E3~

Wow. Just wow. This must be the most idiotic ridiculous funniest statement I have ever seen on this site. XD

I'm all for respecting each other and all but I'm sorry this is just so wrong and dumb in every possible ways I have to put it that way so that maybe you learn something. Look, take absolutely everything you wrote there, go make some research on gaming history and then... I mean....

@Triforce of the Gods
Thank god, I must have misread something. I was already fuming about the $1 transfer fee, but thinking they were increasing the prices was, well, just as bad. Double the anger.

I will argue that asking for $1 to $1.50 per game IS VERY MUCH asking too much. Look, I am sorry Nintendo didn't have the foresight to properly code the VC on Wii. But that's their fault, not mine. If I do some plans and send them to a client in an outdated format, guess what? I have to update them ON MY TIME. This is no different. Nintendo failing to properly code these titles, and being forced to recode everything on WiiU is their fault, not mine. And licensing is certainly not an issue for the 1st party issues, this is Nintendo being overly greedy yet again. No other company would do this; not Sony, not Apple, not Valve, not even M$. Considering that Nintendo charged too much for these titles to begin with just adds insult to injury.

So yeah, that's my rant. I know I am already boycotting the 3DS eshop, but now I am done with VC altogether, probably forever. Also really dissapointed in Wind Waker release, I would have greatly preferred a 4 Swords Adventure with online multiplayer. Nintendo can rectify that by adding finishing the dungeons and other content that was cut from the original Wind Waker release due to time. Otherwise, I am skipping that game altogether (or at least until it hits the $9.99 bargain bin :D but even then only because my copy of Wind Waker is starting to get scratched up :( ). Out of all the 3D Zelda releases that could use an HD facelift, Wind Waker needs it the least.

Why are people comparing Nintendo to the other companies when it comes to the VC? Microsoft doesn't offer anything close to the VC while Sony offers PS1 games. Since MS doesn't have a VC, ill exclude them from this, but does anyone know what Sony will do with those PS1 games when you buy a PS4?

I see alot of people getting on Nintendo about how they are handling this, but they are the first to do it. Sure, Sony allows you to play your PS1 games on the PS3 and Vita, but the game was coded that way. Considering that the PS4 is supposed to be different than the PS3, do you think there will be some re-coding that needs to be done? Will Sony charge for it? No one knows, but people sure make it sound like they will give you everything for free just for buying the game 4 years ago.

If it's on a Nintendo console it's not hardcore. Get over it! Can't you see how Bayonetta was harcore/for real gamers on the PS360 but on Wii U it's for casuals and kiddies.... And the Pikmin are cute, so they are for kiddies. Would be totally hardcore on the PS360 though.....

You get my point now, right?

Damn I'm bored of trend-gamers....And trolls... But M1 does also have some good things to write here and there. But when it comes to this part of the topic it's trolling time deluxe... Don't get it. Was worth a laugh though.

To be fair, Bayonetta is not exactly something most people associate with realism. :-P

Did you expect to play Wii games on the Wii U GamePad when you bought it?

Virtual Console games are Wii games, why would you expect to be able to play them differently for free? You bought it for a system so now you play it on the system it was optimized for. And come on, I've downloaded over 50 VC titles and like many of you I'm sure, I don't care to play them again, I just want them on the Wii U Menu. For that matter I might update a few of them and take a hit of $10 max but there's no reason for me to update every game when I don't care to play them.

With that said Nintendo should still scrap the Wii menu and intrigrate everything into one menu. They don't need to have Wii U functionality just accesed easilier.

And for Deluxe owners it's technically only $9 to update 10 games ;)

This pay to update Wii VC games to get Wii U functionalities sounds similar to what Rock Band 3 did, where you have pay extra to play DLC songs (the DLC songs you downloaded from RB1 or RB2) with pro guitar, pro drums and harmonies.
The dumbest thing about paying to update Wii VC games to Wii U is that it's a limited time offer (to get the update for cheap). It should stay cheap to anyone who already got those VC games on the Wii.
@Nurio
Whoops! I guess I misread! My apologies. :P

And dagnabit, Nintendo. Keep those games (Smash 4 and Mario Kart U) quiet until E3. I know those games are coming since the Wii U was first announced, but I don't want a heads up on to what to expect at this year's E3. I want to be surprised...

@The shoemaker
"With that said Nintendo should still scrap the Wii menu and intrigrate everything into one menu."
I think the main reason why there's Wii mode is to prevent the Wii U from being (easily) hacked because hackers can install that damn homebrew app from the Wii game directly to the Wii U menu.
Well, like I said, that's what I think.

so yeah that dollar really stings some strange persons that could still play their games , a one time fee of three thousand bucks would have been better , oh no wait that only works for the magic of online gaming on xbox live
jokes asides, it's really not like playing on the gamepad is such a great feature for those games , try one you'll see that it's not that fantastic to do . And keep the submenu way .

But it is the same $1 or $1.50 price forever if you already owned the game on Wii. This isn't a limited time offer.
The $0.30 games are a different thing entirely. These games are 30-day monthly promotions, where they offer a NES/Famicom game every month for 30 cents.

But if they're gonna charge they need to make a bundle or better deal for people who already own the games is ALL i'm saying because an extra dollar or $1.50 is too much if you have a LOT of downloaded VC games like I do.

ok dude but the can never release all the games that will appeal to every human being, i mean, most of us here LOVES fire emblem and SHIN mega ten is a HUGE franchise, you should try it sometime, great games. But honestly since its impossible to appease every person, this time it was you who didnt get their slice of the cake. Remember, you can pretend the update never happened and play your games as you did before you knew this (for free)! so dont be upset , its optional theres a choice, so no reason to outrage. Should them be free?im not sure, depends if the games get significantly updated, if not, yeah they should, but you know , is better to have the choice to pay for it and get it that not having the update at all.

There's just no pleasing some people. It' s very symple in my mind, if you don't want to pay for new features thats okay just play the game 'as is' in Wii mode. Would it be nice to get them for free? Yes, but I won't cry about it If they aren't I just won't update, it makes no difference for me.

24 Jan 2013 00:03

Holy smokes this topic makes me just want to block certain people. Is there a block feature I'm missing here? Because I don't see one.

Aaaaanyway, I for one am really excited about the new games Nintendo has to offer. I was crazy surprised at the SMT x FE announcement (my sleepy self literally YELLED the unabbreviated version of "WTF" at 8: 15 in the morning at this announcement). A pleasant kind of surprised, though! Sadly I missed the live trailer of the new Monolith game, but now that I've seen it it looks AMAZING. Piloting mechs in a massive JRPG? Yes please! Not sure what to think of "Epic Yoshi," but it looks pretty copy-pasta from Kirby's Epic Yarn. I hope they'll differentiate it a bit more. The Wonderful 101 also looks cool.

I was pretty bored with the whole VC/Miiverse segment since neither of those are my thing, so I have no comment about the whole "upgrade fee" thing.

Lastly, it seems like Nintendo has many titles in the works such as Mario (that were pretty obvious guesses). Sounds like it'll be a good E3! I'm a little nervous about the direction they want to take Zelda in, but then again I wasn't a huge fan of Wind Waker and Skyward Sword, so I've expected Zelda titles to be somewhat hit-and-miss for me. Let's hope I enjoy this Zelda!

i am astounded. i really don't get your logic. like, at all. you say nintendo "charged too much for these titles to begin with". then why did you buy them in the first place if you didn't think the value was worth the price? and your metaphor is all sorts of off. nintendo isn't making vc games for the wii RIGHT NOW, they made vc games for the wii during the wii's lifespan. people bought them with the intention of downloading them and playing them on their wii systems. no one bought a vc title and thought "i'll wait to play this until their next console comes out." why should nintendo update them to the wii u for you for free? the games weren't in an "outdated format" when they came out. if you fill out forms for a client in 2012 using the 2012 format, why should you have to pay when they come back a year later and want the forms refilled out using the 2013 format? you make absolutely zero sense and give off this pompous attitude of entitlement. if it's such a huge deal, nintendo has another option for you - play them on the wii channel! and you won't have to pay another dime, it's TOTALLY FREE.

and claiming "no other company would do this"? you seriously don't know jack.

regardless, to not find a single positive thing to be taken from this morning's nintendo direct is incredible. i truly feel bad for you.

Nintendo told us what we wanted to hear. Zelda, mario, Yoshi, Xenoblade, etc. If they showed a new franchise, no one would be as excited as he or she is right now. That really new stuff only gets the respect after the release, because only then we know if it's worth a hype. With the famous franchises, we know. And I feel happy, because I know Nintendo will always deliver good and innovative content within their existing franchises.

Anyway it is true that VC prices are way to high and I agree with BlueRangerVegeta that tge jump to next gen should be an opportunity to lower them.

I think 30c games for 30th Famicom anniversary are absolutely awesome and don't have any problem with the 1€ fee to upgrade VC games for the Wii U. But really, Nintendo should not keep these prices, they are insanely high when compared to what the competition offers.

Snes should be no more than 5€ and Nes 3€. 5€ and 8€ is just ridiculously pricy.

I don't care for the additonal charge for VC games. Yes, I'm butthurt, I'm a troll, I'm a cheapskate, etc.
I never knew what a fan boy was. I thought I was one. Heck, I bought the 3d "upgrade" for Urban Champion. BTW, it still sucks, but now in 3d. The point being, yes I bought a lot of VC titles and I would have bought more if they were made availiable. Yes, I FULLY REALIZE that they are playable in the original VC modes, and I can upgrade them for $1.00-$1.50.
That's not really the point, though. I had the same reaction when the "Arcade" versions of certain titles came to the VC. I already own most of those titles. As a longstanding customer, I seriously can't get bumped up to first class once in a while? Is Nintendo honestly that broke that I essentially have to pay for DLC for thirty year old games? I still don't have a complete version of Donkey Kong, because Nintendo won't stop jerking me around. Yes the GB version is cool, but I want an arcade complete version. Look, I enjoy Nintendo's games. There are many things that are great about Nintendo, but would it really kill them to quit nickel and diming every little thing? Why is the VC so anemic? Why do US fans have to beg for games? Give me something worthwhile to purchase and I'll put my money down. I like to think I'm an evolving gamer as far as taste goes, as much as games that normally wouldn't get a second look from me now rank amoungst some of my favorites. I'm always interested in an old VC game I missed before, but not when it gets pulled randomly or gets additional charges to play the "full" version. That just seems like nonsense.

If Nintendo wants to offer you something for being a loyal customer, that's their prerogative. If not, you have nothing to complain about. Well, not really. You can still complain it just means nothing to anyone but yourself.

Nintendo doesn't owe you anything unless you're a stock holder. You got what you paid for when you originally paid for it, did you not?

Since when does buying something mean you have the right to demand more from a company?
