Coming from an EDGE interview...
“Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles. When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.” - Mojang’s Jens Bergensten
You know what would be a nice follow-up to that answer? Oh, I don't know...how about an explanation as to why the game won't come to Wii U?!

What can we do is suffer in wii u's abysmal & barren 2013 that's what we can do!
Barren? Abysmal? March is quite promising for all Nintendo platforms.
I think they would only be looking at offers similar to Microsofts. Microsoft paid for exclusivity, paid for a contract dev to port it, gave them free updates, and a reduced royalty offer. I think Sony would bend over backwards to match Microsoft but I highly doubt that Nintendo would pay a team to port a third party game to their platform while also accepting a lower cut of the revenues.
Their loss then.
The sheer ignorance and blind hate in this thread.
HA! no it's not you just can't accept the facts about wii u having a abysmal 2013!
I have it on PC already so this doesn't effect me much however this is their loss. The Wii U would be an excellent platform for this game.
Maybe they're not allowed to tell us the reason. It's possible the reason is, "Nintendo is being buttholes about it, and they won't make updates affordable for us like Microsoft did." but they don't want to say something that gets them on Nintendo's bad side.
@speedychu
I hope someday you see what real game developers are like and find out that "laziness" is almost never a part of the equation. It's either about cost, manpower, or the platform manufacturer's corporate policy.
Or, you can just keep imagining a fat guy sitting at his desk saying, "I could make a WiiU version, but I don't feel like it."
You can say that again.
The only reason why I'm slightly disappointed is because they never gave a solid reason as to why.
Because no one wanted to work on the wii u after the abomination known as the 2006 wii.
Except updating and or patching Wii U retail and digital games is free [whereas only Minecraft got that clause on the 360 service].
To go from one exclusive platform / userbase, to being free again and going straight to another, snubbing any possible future collab with another? Silly business move.
It's clear why they wouldn't. So let's stop acting surprised at this point.
You don't consider Monster hunter, Need for speed, Toki tori 2, and Zen pinball 2 real video games?
@thedreaminghawk you again!??!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?? Monster hunter sells like crap, everyone has need for speed already, who the hell knows when toki tori 2 comes out & Zen pinball 2 has no release date in North America yet! So yes 2013 looks abysmal for the wii u!
@Chosenoneknuckles
Are updates on the WiiU really free to developers? Because if so, that's a REALLY good thing.
@Hawk
Updates ARE Free on Nintendo. They're ridiculously expensive on Microsoft systems and maybe PS3.
How would the PS3 work with Minecraft? You need a lot of RAM to run the game because of the way it works. PS3 has like.. none. Wii U has 2gb (1Gb to games).
Well my money is snug in my pocket till then. Make me regret waiting Nintendo.
Yep. It's been known since at least afew months before the Wii U launched. It's why I'm still shocked people don't know about it - nor shout about it - it's a huge+ for the eShop for Digital and Indie devs.
Minecraft on 360 aside [where MS made it free to update cos it was a contract exclusive], it was 40K a pop to update titles on said digital service.
I can't say anything about Sony's. I know not how PSN works, so couldn't say.
I would like to know at least why!? Is a follow up to much to ask from people claiming to be journalist? I know Edge is just reporting on the interview iGamer did but still annoying that they don't make it clear if there was an explanation as to why. Or are asking that question themselves.
Presumably they have no plans for the Wii U because the Wii U is doing rather poorly at the moment. If the Wii U picks up, perhaps then. But until then, it's not like you can blame anyone for not being particularly interesting in porting their game over to a console that has yet to prove itself.
No. That's you and others trying to come up with reasons in the absence of any official word. I want to know a why from Mojang itself.
This! Mojang, give us a damn reason!
No reason given at all? That is pretty odd.
It could have been interesting to see what they could have done on Wii U, but it is no big deal. Most people play it on PC anyway.
And now the Nintendo fans jump to conclusions.
"The Wii U isn't good enough for ya huh?!" Chill people.
I don't care.
