Today's Final Jeopardy! question was The Legend of Zelda

Remember, in Jeopardy you give questions, not answers. Today the final question was related to The Legend of Zelda. The show was asking for the full name of the game, and while all three people wrote down Zelda, only one used The Legend of Zelda. That may seem like a painful loss for two contestants, but that's the way Jeopardy is played!

Nerdy enough to be on Jeopardy but not nerdy enough to know the proper name of the classic video game.

Kotaku's a bit derpy when it comes to reading a sentence in basic english. They thought "Zelda" was an acceptable answer.

Exactly. Alex asked for the name of the series. Everyone knows F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife.

And saying Kotaku is "a bit derpy" is an understatement of the highest magnitude.

Agreed. Not caring about the wording of the question and why the answer was so specific is a great example of why we just can't have nice things anymore...

The thing is though, you could have answered Zelda without knowing the game at all if you just knew Fitzgerald's wife's name.

Man I have shovel luck. I watch this every Thursday at my brother's house and they consistently put all the Zelda and Doctor Who questions on any day but Thursday.

"Doctor Who question on Jeopardy last night" "Sherlock question on Jeopardy last night" "Nintendo question on Jeopardy last night" Oooh, I should watch an episode of Jeopardy again sometime!(a bunch of random stuff I don't understand on Jeopardy) ...not again.

Yeah they say "this game, which launched a best-selling franchise" which has to be the full title of the very first game. Now if they said "the name of this franchise", then there would be cause for appeal, as the second game in the franchise didn't even have "the legend of" in the title of its U.S. release.

So, it's arguable whether A-Treb is right when he says "that is not the name of the game or franchise", but it doesn't matter, since the actual question was correctly worded.

Zelda is the name of a character in the series. The Legend of Zelda is the name of the game. :3

"are robbed"

These were probably the same people who think that all game consoles are called "Nintendos".

They do not deserve our pity.

People on Kotaku brought up a good point that there's no way of knowing if they were shortening it or just knew F Scott Fitzgerald's wife (and awarding the latter points isn't fair). Of course they were all being voted down by the ones spewing they were robbed cause it's Kotaku.
