SEGA reported to be Atlus' purchaser

UPDATE - SEGA denying...

While we haven't had a 100% official confirmation just yet, it appears that SEGA Sammy has purchased Index (Atlus) for 14 billion yen. We'll wait for the official word, but we did have SEGA listed as one of the rumored purchasers awhile back.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Nintendo will now buy Sega and Atlus together... :| ...*sigh* not counting on it though...

Actually, I think Atlus and Sega would be a good fit for each other more than Atlus and Nintendo would be.

Nintendo has its own problems, but I don't think buying up companies left and right is the way to fix them.

As for Sega, time will tell how much Atlus is forced to change, but I don't see too much happening in the short term.

Although I would have preferred Nintendo buying them, I'm fine with Sega doing it (assuming they did.)

I wonder if any notable changes will occur.

Sega have a good relationship with Nintendo, this is actually good.

Also, it could have been worst... Capcom? *Shudder*

Well at least this place isn't jumping to conclusion. Wasn't Atlus being sold separately? Anyways, I saw the article and there was no mention of Atlus, so not believing anything until this is confirmed

International Atlus fans have been screwed. Absolutely yuck.

Hey, as long as Sega let's Atlus do what they want to do, who cares if Sega bought them or not? I just don't want to wake up one day to find that one of the first things Sega did was cancel SMT X Fire Emblem. Small chance of it happening, but you never know.

Considering that Nintendo is probably footing most of the bill for that game, and considering that Nintendo is publishing the three Wii U Sonic games for Sega in Europe/Australia, I would think the last thing Sega would want to do is get on Nintendo's bad side.

Word is Sega is going to have them work on mobile trash.

Atlus died today.

Not when Nintendo has footed thew bill on that game PLUS the fact that they're publishing Sonic: Lost Worlds for them.

No, that's ONE of their priorities, not solely. >.>

what are you talking about? Sega JUST released Miku for ps3 in the west. Freaking hatsune miku! What makes you think they won't localize something guaranteed to sell boatloads more like persona or smt?

The only reason Yakuza 5, Valkyria 3, and pso2 havent come out here is because their base titles sold like dog shovel here (Yakuza 4, PSU/PSP, Valkyria 2 have all sold abysmally).

This is actually pretty bad news, imo.

SEGA is notoriously atrocious when it comes to not bringing over like...any of their RPG's or even games like Yakuza to any place outside Japan.

It's still too early to say whether it's good or bad news. Some websites are making it sound like Atlus will be its own entity in the Sega Sammy Holdings family, while others believe Atlus is being folded into Sega Corporation directly. Obviously the latter is the outcome we don't want.

I'm surprised Sega has the available funds for such a purchase. This seems like a missed opportunity for Nintendo to me, but maybe they have too many irons in the fire at the moment to buy a new developer.

Hopefully this isn't true. The only 3rd party I'd be okay with buying Atlus besides themselves would be Level-5 and they certainly don't have the means. I would love for Nintendo to h ave bought them, though. Maybe we could finally get Persona?

As for the update, didn't NIntendo deny a bunch a crap reported by Nikkei that ended up being true anyway?

@nGen That's exactly what I sounded like after reading the title x[[[[[[. Hey Nintendo? Buy SEGA! Everyone is happy (except for a handful of Sony and MS fans).

This is the best way it could have happened. If either Nintendo or Sony bought Atlus, then one fanbase would get exclusive games while the other would suffer. With Sega doing this, there can be Atlus games for both systems (and most likely PC releases as well).

http://gematsu.com/2013/09/sega-sammy-c ... cquisition

“Notice is hereby given that Sega Dream Corporation, which was newly established as a wholly owned subsidiary by Sega Corporation (‘Sega’), a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. (the ‘Company’), has concluded a business transfer agreement with Index Corporation (‘Index’) for the purpose of revitalization of the business. Under the agreement, Sega will take over the operations conducted by Index, the bankrupt company that applied to the Tokyo District cort for the commencement of civil rehabilitation proceedings effective from June 27, 2013."

I agree that I jumped the gun earlier nGen, and if it was just SEGA Sammy snatching them up and letting continue business as usual not under SEGA that wouldn't be bad, but this [i]is[/b] the bad scenario we were hoping against, right?

yeah so the company that could not be bothered to care about their own brands/ IPs (sega japan is sonic and yakuza only) is acquiring another company full of valuable ip ? it's a bit weird
well it's not like any scenario would have brought me trauma team 2 with full use of the wii u game pad and motion + .
