I'm part of the minority who enjoyed GenIII, so you know I'll take Ruby/Sapphire remakes. But I wonder what its names would be.

I don't see a remake coming. R/B/G/S were remade when Gen III erased them, but (theoretically) Ruby/Sapphire is still compatible.

Retarded Ruby and Silly Sapphire?

Yes, but, it's been such a LOOOONG time. GenIII deserves a sexy update to bring it to our current standards, as will Gen 4 someday.

I still say that Gen I and II got remade because they were 8-bit and deserved better. Like it or not, you can still import your Gen III PKMN all the way to Gen VI while the same can't be done for Gen I & II.

Well if that's the case, they can also be remaking Black/White because Unova is mentioned a lot. See? I can do "theories" too :D

I will say that I think an R/S remake is inevitable. Yeah, the originals are still (distantly) compatible with X/Y, but then there is more than the anecdotal evidence in X/Y to support this possibility.

For instance, last year, Masuda commented on the requests for R/S remakes. Obviously not enough in itself, but he did say he would "have to think about it" or something like that. Obviously his word isn't the final say in everything (but it's damn close). However I think we'll be seeing them anyway.

Now, one other thing. I note a lot of people look back on Gen III with nostalgia goggles now. Not saying this is a problem, though. It's more of an interesting observation. 2003, we got Ruby/Sapphire, and we also got Wind Waker. Both games had... mixed feelings around them. Fast forward to now, 10 years later, and Wind Waker is a classic, and people fondly remember Ruby and Sapphire as being awesome. It's interesting because the initial problems with both were a matter of departure. Wind Waker changed the style of the graphics, made the overworld water. Ruby and Sapphire lost compatibility with the previous games, leaving old Pokemon behind, and having only 200 of the 386 Pokemon available in-game. After people played Wind Waker, they loved it. After playing Ruby/Sapphire, most people loved it, but hated the lack of their favorites. A few years later, all of the missing Pokemon were available in the games through the remakes of Red/Green and Colosseum, alleviating the biggest points of contention.

... long story short. 2003 was an interesting year for games that people were not fond of initially, but ended up becoming classics.

@takarakitsune

I was pretty much the opposite with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, actually. I was absolutely NUTS about it when it was new, but looking back I see nothing but problems. Same with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, actually. G3 and G4 were just so forgettable.

I rather not remakes but a sequel to Ruby and Sapphire. Imagine the effects after the events in RSE? In the Desert Resort, a man was claiming that the Mirage Tower was falling apart over the years. BW takes place about 5-7 years after the events in RBY and RSE. I'd love the BW2 treatments for Ruby and Sapphire.

Pokemon Solar Ruby and Lunar Sapphire.

SR would have the region with more land and LS would have some cities submerged and pretty much inaccessible while new towns and cities would have been formed (a manmade city on top of the ocean). They could do some pretty neat stuff with sequels and have drastic differences between the two versions just because of the events that took place. I feel Hoenn should be redeemed.

The backpacker is actually talking about a region other than the previous 5.

There are also people who make similar statements about every other region

Yeah, people focus on the Hoenn references, but they reference Sinnoh and Unova a lot in Kalos as well.

And they reference Blue/Green.

As much as I'd love for these to be hints (and they still could be), there's no real evidence since you could say the same about 4th and 5th gen and I really doubt they're remaking either of those.

Another to add to the growing list of old games people would like Nintendo to remake.

Id rather have them add the regions as dlc or something in XY.

Following their trend of games, it's kind of obvious that they are going to remake the games at some point. The references in-game are meaningless, though. I've seen references to pretty much every region.

Are you really in a minority?

Generation III were not so well received in the beginning, but now I see more people calling Generation III their favorite than I do any of the other generations. The Generation III hate has faded away, and now Generation IV is the generation that is cool to hate (for what reason, I have no clue).

Anyway, I'd love to see R/S remakes. Just because I think they'd fix a lot of the issues I had with R/S, like the lack of the day/night system. Hoenn was a good region, so I'd like to see it remade with 3D models.

I'm down. I didn't really like the 3rd gen but I'm willing to give it another shot.

@Radiant

I noticed this a lot. I remember liking Ruby and Sapphire back in the day and people trashed me/it for doing so.

Now it seems like it's cool to love R/S and that it's the best Pokemon. Where the hell was everyone when I liked it many years ago?

I wonder what kind of gimmicky hardware they'll pack in with it

Some gadget to put over the IR that make you able to use some link cable for trading/battling. :P

As aforementioned, every region [even ones not yet visited] get name-dropped in XY.

I do have to wonder how long it'd take to remake the Hoenn region itself in 3D, if such remakes are used as a stock-gap till Gen VII, though.

@grcpan Nah. Wouldn't make sense business wise.

I'd like them to periodically have wifi events where they add new pokemon to XY[Z], though! :)

Jeesuty jib jeez Jesus.

Some Pokemon fans surely are entitled... A brand new generation of games has just begun last Saturday with a couple of new games, trying to making larger a franchise's world and yet there still are a lot of people lurking for every single hint that could suggest -as a joke or for serious purposes- a R/S/E remake. REALLY?

Like if those references were the only ones to other pokemon games in the game... Not to spoil anything, but a lot of NPCs in X/Y do have reference to the other regions of the pokemon franchise, in the same way Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros has characters and inhabitants of different kingdoms and species from the previous Mario and Luigi games.

I absolutely loved ruby and sapphire (I owned emerald) and would totally purchase it when it's remade. I just hope they get there 3D ironed out.
