GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Platform bashing is a losing battle every single time

GN Version 4.0

Man, this week really dragged on. I didn't have my usual Wednesday night off because of upcoming events. I won't have it off next Wednesday either. Amazing how a 4-hour break really means that much to me! So happy Friday is here. See you in a few, short hours!

I've had quite an interesting time these past few days. Something popped up that I didn't even know was heading my way. It was an opportunity to discuss the console wars with someone who is aware of games, but not away of just how crazy platform allegiance can go. That person just so happened to be my sister.

My sister definitely knows about games and has played most of her life. She doesn't play like I do, but she's more than skilled enough to know what's up and handle most games out there. We always end up talking about games when she's around, plus she'll make time to pick up the big Nintendo games that are out there.

Little did she know that her Nintendo interest would spark a bit of an argument at her work. Turns out she has a co-worker that is a diehard Nintendo hater. Every chance he gets, he'll bash the Big N from every angle possible. Now you and I know that people like that are all over the internet/world. It's part of the territory. Most of learned to let those people go, but not my sister. She decided to engage in this battle.

I told her right from the start that it's completely pointless. I feel that no gamer should bash another gamer for the games/platforms they enjoy. I may not like the Madden series, but I wouldn't hate on those that enjoy it. I am all about games in every aspect, so anyone playing any game on any platform is a good thing. Why people feel they need to belittle others for not enjoying their own platform/game of choice is beyond me.

She didn't want to take my advice to back out and let this fight disappear. She wanted Nintendo facts and details that were beyond what she knew. I gave her sales info, franchise legacies, quotes from publishers/developers...you name it. Each time I gave her something, he would fire back at the guy and he'd come back with another silly statement. Nintendo only makes casual games, Nintendo games aren't long and content filled, Nintendo games are for kids. You know, those same tired argument. This went on for two days!

Just today, she realized the point I was trying to make. No matter what she said to this guy...no matter what facts she used to combat his claims, he wasn't going to accept the answer. He simply wanted to hate Nintendo for whatever reason. That's the way it's going to be. No, it's certainly not fair, but so be it. If he wants to be miserable like that, then let him. We can all go on enjoying Nintendo content, or any other gaming content we see fit.

It took my sister a few days to realize that these wars aren't doing any good. These arguments just fuel the flames. It's best to let those people rant away their lives online. Let them spread their hate and let them feel their blood boil. While they do that, we can smile and play games we love. We can be open to new experiences and learn about new games from our companions.

Please...please don't get caught up in silly wars about which platform or games are best. Like what you like and let others enjoy whatever they play. A true gamer doesn't have to like every game/platform, but they should respect that everyone has different tastes. Playing games across all platforms just means more respect and attention for the industry. Isn't that what any gamer should want?
