Ubisoft discusses avoiding typical pirate tropes in Assassin's Creed IV
Coming from a DigitalSpy interview...
"We don't have talking parrots, we don't have walking the plank - walking the planks didn't even exist at that time. We did take a few liberties from a gaming perspective. We have treasure maps, for example, which pirates didn't have, but this is more of a gameplay mechanic. Generally speaking we really avoided cliches. Even the way pirates spoke, it wasn't as cliche as we imagine today. We have amazing voice acting in this game, and the actors did a phenomenal job." - director Ashraf Ismail
