Hackers using Wii U browser exploit to tweak Mario Kart 8

Direct link here (thanks Peenbbb2!)

This could certainly be bad news for the future of Mario Kart 8 online play. Let's hope people don't start sniffing out ways to cheat and ruin the online experience.

First of Fire Hopping is something everybody does and only helps, if you hate people who do and think they suck, well you are the one that sucks, also this is only a good thing. Can't wait for people do put in Mods for Smash or costumes!

In all honesty, since this hack is possible by hacking the Wii U Browser, doesn't that mean they need to patch the browser? Actually if anything I think part of the problem is that the browser has too much access to the rest of the OS. Not sure if they have an app sandbox like iOS and all, but that could help in this situation. Most browsers are explicitly separated from the rest of the OS these days because they're so dangerous and all...

Remember when Nintendo give the people the possibiliy to import their games with the first DS?

Remember what people did with that freedom?
They did the R4.

So what's the solution?
Force updates or your new game won't start.

You're scared they will be critique about Nintendo because of that?
What's new?

The end.

Being region free has NOTHING to do with Flast Carts. In fact, people would be more likely to buy something like the R4 with region locking for the same reason many people hack the Wii to remove region locking.

I'm hoping Nintendo patches this as soon as possible. People cheating online is not fun...and you know it's going to happen eventually if it isn't patched.

But what would happen if someone in up hacking the Wii-u for the wrong reasons, which would happen, knowing how some people are. Even though they got good intentions, it doesn't mean it would produce good results in the long run.

@Metriod SA-X
Not everyone fire hops.

The issue people have with fire hopping is that it gives an unfair advantage to those that do exploit the game mechanics while leaving people who don't behind.

Remember Mario Kart DS snaking? Gross.

Every time this "all hackers are bad, becuse some people will be cheating". The who is to blame is Nintendo, if they habe no effective way to ban people.

I hope for some good Mario Kart Custom stuff, in the future. (^_^)

PS: I'm against cheating, but for a Wii U-Softmod. Need a good way to rip the music out of my Wii U games.

It's part of the game. If you don't use all the tools given, that's your own fault for losing.

If the game was made to fire hop all you would be able to do is JUST fire hop! it would be called MARIO KART HOP!

Also the only reason people exploit these options is to stroke their own ego, probably because they have no one else to stroke it for them!

End...

@3dimension
You can drift. It's not called Mario Kart Drift, is it? Are you against drifting too?

It's in the game. They haven't even said anything about it. They may have intentionally put it in the game. Who knows?

oh wow, by reading the comments, the game is already trashed because of another "exploit exploiting" sorry what's the latest silly terms "sKiLlz L337". Oh what a joke the usual ,
" dev : here's how the game is played"
" hox0r : yeah i find a way to win everytime !"
" dev : ...."
" dev : ... yeah that was totally what we thought of when creating the game"
that usually how it goes no need to "alienate" those low ego folks especially in shooter land and their few weeks life span.

and actually if you go back to the relevant Iwata asks, it's possible to find the reason smk was designed precisely that way.

but now we're already at the true hacks stage, oh wtf. I hope they can repair a bit of that "fire hoping aka lookatmeihavesuchanhighscorevalidateme!!!!!!" and then this. All hope is not lost, i guess going by mk7, and the already announced dlc promo patch. I doubt nintendo was the one who approached the other.

So for those keeping counts it's the 4398th online game in a row ruined by your precious elite hackers and exploit friends. ONLINE GAMING is the true failure of the last generation, no wonder they try to save their mandatory online fee with coop gameplay. Analog aiming, ads, autoaim, spawnpoint, tier characters, they intended to hide that in ..., so many spins just to please the few who play just way too much time. It would not be a problem if it would not render near useless those games for the people who bought them

so anyway they should just allow the "don't play with" button on mariokart , the opposite concept of rivals ..... truth is I have still yet to play online lol, not by the lack of wanting to . While they're at it they should also add the one button "block" on miiverse quick block they could name it. directly after the message.

I didn't know about that fire hopping "thing". Now I know the reasons why one or to players win all the online matches every single time, get way unreachable in the race and then start spamming "Hooray!" in the lobby.
If it's not on the manual, then it's an exploit. There's no way you can learn it just by playing fair and simple. If the cpu does it, if you can see it being done by the nintendo ghost in time trial, then, by no doubt, I would do it.

Hopefully a patch could fix it, it's really unfair since it's impossible to know that if you don't play like crazy and read every tips and tricks and all that stuff in order to "win". Even then, the online experience have been great. Feels balanced overall, even if two guys win every single time, it feels balanced. Take "fire hopping" down and the online is perfect.

Yeah, fire-hopping is for the desperate. It's funny because they defend doing it, but I bet they're also not getting the word out to every player possible on how to do the technique.
Clinging to their advantage....

I'm not sure I agree. Everyone having to learn some arcane exploit and play the same way, hopping around the track like goofballs to have a chance, doesn't sound like fun to me.

Good now go to your recently played list in MK8, go to each user in miiverse and tell them.

Well, ony the ones you beat. The ones you didn't beat probably don't need it.

Why must people ruin such a fun thing?
User avatar

The pro-fire hopping folks in here are funny. Go get a string of firsts online, like 10+ in a row, without doing it.

Then come back and we'll have a discussion about how good at MK you actually are. Cheers. :mrgreen:

@mastereddy97

Seriously? People who don't abuse mechanics are casuals now?

Mario Kart DS was known for having horrible online because that's all people did, abuse the snaking system. Instead of being a fun laid back racer, it ended up being a race to whoever could make their fingers bleed.

@Gold_Ultima
The only reason people firehop is because a vast majority don't. If everyone fire hopped, no one would have an advantage. This is what I find so hilarious about people defending fire-hopping.

@OmnipotentSwine
Look, it's quite obvious that this wasn't meant to be an actual mechanic in the game. Nintendo has not mentioned it once and neither have manuals/instructions. It's an exploit in how the boost system works.

@Fuffelpups
I get the whole "homebrew" thing but lets be real, most people use it to cheat or to pirate. That's the only reason I never liked this movement.

Look at Mario Kart Wii. The online was ruined with people hacking 24/7. I did not benefit from the homebrew movement which is probably why it rubbed off on me. All it did was ruin my experience.

@Autosaver

Then they should patch it out. It's added no fun to the game but it's apparently taken away some (not from me) and the goal should be for as much people to have the most fun possible.
