The classic Nintendo racing game, Mario Kart will be 20 years old this year, and to celebrate, the Museum of Computing in Swindon is holding a family gaming day on Saturday 14th April.

Visitors can try their hand at every Mario Kart console game in the series, all on the original Nintendo hardware, from the SNES through the N64, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, Wii, DS and 3DS.

This wacky racing game which is recognized as one of the greatest game series of all time is being celebrated with three exciting competitions: the Mario Kart Mayhem Challenge and the DS and 3DS Multiplayer Competitions. During the first competition participants will play three Mario Kart titles to achieve their best total score, starting with the original Super Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo. The player with the highest score will be crowned the museums ‘Super Mario Kart Mayhem Champion’.

Participants of the DS and 3DS Multiplayer Championship are being asked to bring their own Nintendo DS or 3DS console to compete head to head on Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7.

The three winners will have the chance to try karting for real thanks to Swindon F1 Karting (www.swindonkarting.co.uk) and will receive winning trophies from Brightshire Media Management (http://www.brightshire.co.uk), the two sponsors of this event.

Simon Webb, museum curator said ‘it’s going to be a fantastic family day with lots happening including face painting and the chance to have your photo taken as Mario. Anybody who loves Mario Kart should be there’.

The event runs from 09:30 to 17:00 with the DS challenge running from 10:00-12:30 and the 3DS challenge from 13:30-16:00. For more information go to www.museumofcomputing.org.uk
