I too thought they would at least show a third party game but it was all second and first party exclusives, which was awesome and made being a Nintendo fan that much sweeter. :D And Nintendo has proved yet again with another system that they don't need third parties to provide enough content for their systems and us gamers are benefitting because of this.

Though it will cause 3rd parties to sulk in a corner like a bunch of children and still hold out for some of that sweet war chest Nintendo has. You'd think they would realize the pattern by now
-3rd parties demand to be treated like royalty
-Nintendo refuses, knowing that moneyhatting is a terrible practice
-3rd parties throw hissy fit and attempt to starve Nintendo out
-Nintendo doesn't crack
-Nintendo then expand their own internal repertoire, thus becoming less dependent on 3rd parties
-Nintendo succeeds ANYWAY
-3rd parties sulk in a corner

Same thing with the N64, the GC, and the Wii. It even happened with the 3DS. When all is said and done Nintendo plays the long game and just becomes stronger for it. I think it's going to get to the point where 3rd parties are utterly superfluous to Nintendo, which is something 3rd parties could have avoided if they acted like adults.

And it's not like Nintendo had 12 games that blew away everything else on the other consoles to make up for having less than 1/3 of the titles to show.

These are the 12 games that Nintendo showed during the Digital Event, not including Mario Party 10, Devil's Third, Codename STEAM, Starfox U and Bayonetta 1. The few 3DS exclusives like Fantasy Life, Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, etc. And some e-shop exclusives like Affordable Space Adventure and Shovel Knight, among others.

3rd parties will never get on board with Nintendo, so the big N should stop trying to cater to them all the time, it just hurts them.

The thing is: Nintendo showed all those games at the Digital Event.

They also showed some third pary games.

Where these 12 games came from?

The charts were comparing only the games show on Microsoft and Sony's conference, with Nintendo's Digital Event (the online 47-minute presentation, not the Treehouse Streams).

The 12 games were:

Yoshi Wooly World, Captain Toad, Kirby, Mario Maker, Smash Bros. Wii U, Zelda
Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors
Omega Ruby/ Alpha Sapphire, Smash Bros. 3DS

I'm sorry, but all of these percents point to Nintendo dominating E3. They announced the most games, the most exclusives, the least amount of shooters and compared to the other consoles, they have about just as much, if not more games coming out this year than next year.

Owning a Wii U is a really smart thing to do right now for the unbiased gamer.

yeah but there was much more games shown on treehouse plus the sonic, the new 3ds game e'shop games if I add it all up, it would cost me near 700 to 800 $ to buy everything they shown, not counting amiibos too an And for me 85% of what I seen I would want to play. So all in all 700 800 $ worth of games that I would want to spend is more than enough I need to spend a year, I was very satisfied what what they shown!

I think Nintendo would have shown more exclusives if they wanted, they obviously could have doubled the length of their Digital Event and still not been the longest. They had more games to show, but chose not to do them all at once. MS and Sony put everything into their presentations, thats why you see the bigger numbers. Nintendo did it differently and so the comparisons don't really fit too well.

In other news: Microsoft was pretty one sided, Sony was a bit more balanced, while Nintendo had the greatest balance for every gaming genre. They didn't focus on just one game type. They had a little something for everyone.

The first and last graphs should be the two objective indicators of who wins E3 in any given year.

I think graph one shows what's wrong with this industry as a whole.

The last one made me laugh a lot, though.

I wonder how this breaks down in content rating. I couldn't help but feel jaded @ E3 due to all the games with excessive blood and decapitation. I'd assume most of Sony and Microsoft would be M rated.

It just doesn't make since that the industry keeps catering exclusively to that demographic. Guess that's why Nintendo thrives, no competition. Definitely by Western developers.

@HammerGalladeBro
I don't have a problem with games being shooters but does every shooter have to be:
gory
colorless
weight lifter dude

Nintendo easily showed the most games I'm interested in by far and that's the most important thing.

Sony and Microsoft felt more like a race of who can out dudebro each other. Just look at those percentages of shooters. Just about half... That's not counting the non-shooter dudebro games

Just going by this graph it appears Sony is more dudebro than Microsoft this year.

Also; if you actually break down the percentage they tell a more complete story. For example; both Microsoft and Sony have basically the same number of exclusives as Nintendo. Microsoft maybe has one less and Sony actually has a couple more.

Pretty much this...

What annoyed me this E3, was the endless amount of CGi kaboom trailers for Sony and Microsoft (and EA and Ubisoft). So Little actual gameplay. At least Nintendo showed gameplay for all the games (excluding maybe Zelda, but it was in-Engine, and not super CGi).

I still say that Nintendo easily "won" E3, and I am surprised to see pretty much everyone on GameFaqs agreeing on that.

Don't forget all the exclusive stealthbombs as well.

This is fairly useless, considering over half of what both MS and Sony showed off were multiplat third party games.

It was a waste of everyone's time. I liked Nintendo's approach.

Seriously? I won't question how much time Nintendo spent on games but I swear microsoft was rivaling them, just without as many exclusives.

Exclusives is the entire point of buying any console.... Otherwise it's just a pissing contest of which multiplat game version looks the best, if that's the case we should just leave the consoles out of this because they won't be able touch a mid range or better PC who will get all of the multiplats as well.

If Sony/Micrrosoft can't show as many exclusives they have lost any and all reasons for me to consider opening my wallet. This is why I have no problems buying a Nintendo console because it's library is going to be vastly different to what's on PS/XB/PC. And because there is terrible overlap between the latter 3 systems, Sony and Microsoft need beef up their exclusives from here if I'm going to bother considering their systems, and judging by both of their presentation, I'm not the least bit interested in the xBone or PS4 yet.

They didn't need twelve that blew away all competition. They had two that did, and they're the only two that they needed: Smash Bros. and Zelda!

The two new consoles were able to get very close to the much cheaper Wii U in terms of sales numbers pretty quickly on the back of Marginally better call of duty. I think certin exclusives matter like Zelda, Uncharted, Halo, but on averge the average consumer tends to plau muliplats much more.

Pent up demand for an upgraded system. The last generation lasted an astounding 8 years. Maybe they will both eventually match their predecessors, but I think this generation will see a lot less hardware sales by the end of it.
