GN Version 4.0
A portion of a Famitsu interview with Wada, Uematsu and Nishida...

Famitsu: What’s your hometown and your ideal shop like?

Wada: I’m from a surprisingly small country town in Miyazaki, Kyushu. It’s near a port in southern Miyazaki. Then, I moved to a town close to Kagoshima, but still in Miyazaki. Although it’s still in Miyazaki, everyone in this town spoke in Kagoshima dialect. After living in this small town, my family moved to the biggest city in Miyazaki, Miyazaki City. It was my dream come true. There were so many people in Miyazaki City, but when I first visited Shibuya on a school trip, I was simply amazed at the number of people on the streets! It’s like a festival every day, in the famous zebra crossing or the shopping centers. In Miyazaki City, you can still see the vast blue sky even in the middle of the biggest city in the prefecture. I like that.

Famitsu: How about you, Uematsu-san?

Uematsu: I grew up in Kochi, Shikoku until I was 18 years old. I was there until I knew what I liked and disliked. My taste was shaped by the ocean, rivers, and mountains in Kochi.

Famitsu: How about you, Nishida-san?

Nishida: I was born in Tokyo, and grew up in Kanagawa. But my relatives lived in Fukushima, and I spent every summer and winter holiday there. I always wanted to live in the countryside. I moved a few times, looking for a place that was surrounded by the sounds of nature, and finally found where I live now. I’ve experienced so many things I had never imagined here.

Famitsu: For example?

Nishida: Everyone around me is elderly. When I come home, everyone says “Welcome home!” to me. Also, clearing the weeds plays a surprisingly big role where I live. I get invited to in a wedding party, and rewarded with one little steamed bean-jam bun! (laughs) They throw serious weeding parties in my district! Everyone in the district participates. With some heavy machinery or tools, everyone acts as if we were going to cut down a tall tree! I feel I am learning a new way of life.
