Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam - TONS of story/gameplay details

GN Version 5.0

- Luigi is in a storage room in Peach's Castle
- this is where leaks are a normal occurrence
- Luigi and a Toad find a mouse that made a hole in the wall and chase after it
- Luigi falls from a bookcase and a magical book is discovered
- the book unleashes the Paper Mario universe into the Mario & Luigi one
- both versions of Bowser Jr really seem to like one anothe
- both Princess Peach versions discuss the irritation of being kidnapped all the time
- you'll eventually bump into Paper Mario and your adventure really begins
- Luigi loses the book that contains the world of Paper Mario and it lands in the hands on Bowser's minions
- this makes Luigi sad, so Paper Mario decides to cheer him up by allowing himself to be used as a napkin for Luigi's tears
- your goal is to get to Bowser's Castle
- there are also Paper Toads and Princesses that you have to bring back to their own world
- Paper Toads are terrified of the new world that they have entered so they hide themselves
- accept missions at Lakitu Center, which includes Paper Toad hunts
- there are puzzles where you have to break certain blocks to get the Toads to you
- move the Toads to a certain part of the map and make sure that they don't escape
- battle enemies to free toads as well
- new Bros. Attacks like Rocket Blast, where Mario and Luigi will fly high and drop down on their opponent
- with Rocket Blast, the last brother flies off with the rocket and gets one extra chance to hurt the opponent even more
- another new Bros. Attack is Drill Shell, where the bros. lift each other up into the air and then drill down
- 3D Red Shell and Fire Flower make a return
- in special chase segments, you follow Nabbit around and catch him to earn new Bros. Attacks
- earn Trio Attacks this way as well
- early on, Paper Mario can make up to 5 copies of himself, which helps disperse damage
- when Paper Mario jumps, every copy follows up in quick succession
- with a hammer, his copies will spread across all of the opponents on the field
- Paper Mario's flutter jump allows him to stay in the air longer and his hammer will charge and automatically move if
- the Trio Racquet has the entire party hitting a ball off a wall where enemies are strapped
- Trio Kite let's you choose one enemy that will be strapped to the kite
- you have to time your button presses to raise the kite high in the air, which makes the slam to the ground more damaging
- equip certain suits and gear to adjust stats
- no more badges
- with every new rank, you are rewarded Battle Cards, which can be used after obtaining Star Points
- stars are earned by pulling off perfect moves
- effects of these cards include raising your defense by 25% for a limited time, nullifying your damage for a single turn or giving every enemy on the field 20 points of damage
- purchase your own cards, which can be put into special sets of ten
- amiibo character cards can be used if you register an amiibo
- if you have other data saved to the figurine, you can't use the abilities that this feature offers
- find/buy special ? cards and scan your amiibo to get one new card from that set
- cards feature colorful artwork from other games that feature the character
- these cards do not take up any Star Power and can be used any time it is your turn
- Battle Cards can only be used once per battle and you have to scan the amiibo to access the card set
- regular/paper enemies will have different ways of presenting their attacks
- one boss fight involves two big Pokeys (regular and paper) and they help one another
- Paper Pokey will shoot regular Pokey's body parts to the trio
- there are special Papercraft Battles, where you stand on a gigantic Mario or Luigi and use dash and charge attacks
- attacks use energy and you will have go to specific spots to refill it
- this mode involves playing a small rhythm minigame to replenish your health
- you'll encounter paper variations of Goombas, Pokeys and Kamek
- Toadette is in charge of it all, and she constantly makes inventions with an army of Paper Toad
- game starts off in Sunbeam Plains, then to Doop Doop Dunes and so on
- jump and dash together with the X-button
- special ramps that will launch you to other places on the map
- Trio Hammer allows you to break huge blocks together so that the way to new areas can be cleared
- Trio Grab lets you reach poles and obstacles that are far away
- this is where Paper Mario takes a cylinder form and this stretches Mario and Luigi to places more easily
- replay missions at the Lakitu Centers, with harder modes available
- buy your gear and items and talk to various NPCs in towns
- some have minigames for you to play, puzzles to solve or extra items to give you
- use a block to bring your characters back to full health
- you can save almost anywhere you want
- tutorials are relegated to text books that you can easily skip
