Over the years, Nintendo has released a series of classic controllers for the Switch that go along with their various Switch Online offerings. Here in the states, Switch Online members could purchase a variety of legacy controllers, and that included NES-style designs. Over in Japan, the situation has been exactly the same, but with the NES controller swapped for a Famicom design.

Ever since these controllers launched, the only way to get them was by being a Switch Online member. If you were a member, you had a chance to buy them through Nintendo’s store as long as stock was available. Apparently, at least in Japan, that’s going to change in the very near future.

Nintendo has announced that the Switch Online Famicom controllers are soon going to be put up for sale to the general public. The kickoff comes July 18th, 2024, no doubt to coincide with the release of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. Of course, now the question is whether Nintendo will do the same for the NES controllers in NA/EU. We’ll keep an eye out for that information!
