Live the unwritten, on the go!
In a Twitter reply from Chandler Wood, a community manager for the upcoming Avalanche Software-lead Wizarding World title Hogwarts Legacy, GoNintendo has received another confirmation that the game is indeed slated for a release on Nintendo Switch. The tweet in question can be seen below:
The confirmation comes after fans noticed the console had been added to the list of platforms on the game’s official FAQ section with the Switch’s logo posted on the website. Along with this, an Amazon listing for the title was found offering physical pre-orders for the title. Having confirmation from the Community Manager on the game locks the Switch version down as 100% official.
Hogwarts Legacy, as described on the game’s official FAQ page, is “…an immersive, open-world, action role-playing-game set in the 1800s wizarding world, which puts players at the centre of their own adventure.”
In the game, players will play a student new to the titular school of witchcraft and wizardry. Rather than entering the school as a first year student, however, players will begin in their fifth year. Given your late admittance, you will have some catching up to do to reach the level of proficiency expected of a witch or wizard your age.
There is a large focus on player customization in the game. From your hair, to your eyes, to your skin-tone, and many other factors, your character avatar will be able to represent the person you want to play in-game. There are also a variety of clothing options that can be found or bought to further change your look. A variety of other magical gear will be available as well, making for a large amount of combinations.
The game is set in an open world that players will be free to explore and discover. As new skills and abilities are learned, you will be able to visit new areas, dungeons, and more. As your school year progresses, the world will be affected by seasons and climate effects making the world that much more dynamic. Within the open world lies the centerpiece of the game, Hogwarts castle. For the first time ever, the entire castle has been fully realized and will be completely explorable throughout the game. Areas never seen before, such as the Hufflepuff common room, will be discoverable alongside familiar locations such as the Great Hall.
The gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy received a 15 minute extended showcase Thursday at PlayStation’s state of play event, shown above. The showcase featured a variety of different mechanics and systems including character creation, potion brewing, combat, and more. According to the gameplay preview, the experience will see you attending a variety of classes as a student, including Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions. These classes will teach you how to cast new spells, defend yourself in combat, create useful items to aid you, and more. By attending classes, you will gain new skills that you can used outside of your coursework.
One of the major aspects advertised in the newest reveal is the combat of Hogwarts Legacy. As you learn in your classes, your new abilities will aid you in defeating enemies. Whether that be more powerful and versatile spells, potions to buff your abilities, or magical plants to change the tide of battle, everything you learn will act as a boon to your adventure in the magical world. Spells can work together to create interesting combinations, and can exploit the weaknesses of your enemies if put to proper use.
Hogwarts Legacy also hosts a variety of systems outside of combat, including puzzles, skill trees, broom flight, care of magical creatures, magical farming, quests, and more. All of these systems come together to give the player an experience where they can pick what they want to focus on and create a character that is uniquely their own. Skills can be upgraded depending on what aspects you want to participate in, meaning your gameplay will vary with your choices. There are confirmed to be multiple paths to take, including choices involving the use of dark magic such as Avada Kedavra– the series’ infamous killing curse.
The latest information for Hogwarts Legacy also puts emphasis on one feature in particular– The Room of Requirement. Fans of the series may recognize that name, as it appears within both the books and the film franchise. In this game, however, The Room of Requirement will serve as your own space within Hogwarts castle itself. It is where you can brew potions, grow plants, tame magical creatures, and much more. It will serve an important role in your journey to catch up to your magical classmates given your late arrival. The Room will be customizable to fit your needs, and upgrades will be available to further match your skills and interests. The preview even showed off a completely customizable area, complete with a small cottage, animals to pet, and more.
The game is currently slated for a Holiday 2022 release on PlayStation systems, Xbox systems, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version does not currently have a confirmed release date. Regardless, the new confirmation means players can now officially look forward to exploring the vast Wizarding World on their Nintendo Switch system. With new characters, new stories, and new opportunities, you can look forward to creating a legacy of your own.
