Because it's a paid MMO? Of course Wii DQX owners don't pay the upfront cost a second time because they want the players to keep paying the monthly fees.

I didn't ask why they are doing this with DQX. I asked why they don't also do this with VC games.

WOW, this is sooooooo smart.

That's quite remarkable.

That's the way to do it!!! Nintendo, take notes "prease"...

Square Enix does what Nintendon't

Only Wii? Are there not enough Wii U players to include them?

It doesn't really have anything to do with the amount of players. Support for the Wii version of the game is being dropped altogether, but Wii U will continue for the foreseeable future.

Square Enix is currently doing the same thing with Final Fantasy XIV. When Stormblood launches PS3 support is being discontinued, so PS3 players can currently upgrade to PS4 for free.

Nintendo would do well to learn from this for the VC

Hopefully something similar is done for owners of Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS.

oh great let me go back to my wii copy of the game and get the...

...oh wait!

I too wish that in addition to the cost of the initial purchase VC games were only playable during two specific hours of the day unless a $12 monthly subscription fee is paid.

Was going to post something similar.
They all forget it's both not the same circumstances (you can still play the VC ganes on Wii and Wii U) AND not the same kind of products.

why can't Nintendo do like the League of Legends devs and just sell all their games for free

I didn't remember you were the original commenter, and I seriously thought you were serious for a second... xD

Dang! I wish Nintendo would do this with their games... It would have been nice to get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for free, for those who bought and registered the Wii U version. It would have been nice to get VC console games for free, after already getting them on both the Wii and Wii U...
