A Short Hike developer says he was inspired by Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing, and more

A Short Hike is a unique exploration game where you play at your own pace and wander around a peaceful mountainside. It's certainly not your average release, but it turns out some more traditional titles helped inspire it.

In an interview with NintendoEverything, developer Adam Robinson-Yu opened up about the titles that helped pave the way for A Short Hike.

I’ve been inspired by many games! Breath of the Wild was a huge inspiration – it really breathed life into the open-world genre, which I felt had been getting a little repetitive at that point. Other games I looked to as inspiration were Firewatch, Minit, The Frog Detective, and Animal Crossing.
