GN Version 5.0

For all the things Nintendo talks about publicly, there's a bunch of other behind-the-scenes changes that they don't mention. The latest example of that is Nintendo's reworking of their multiplayer servers.

Nintendo has been using the NEX multiplayer server system since the 3DS/Wii U days, and the setup itself is 18 years old. Nintendo has now moved on to the NPLN system, and you've actually already experienced it if you played the Monster Hunter Rise demo. That demo was the first game on Switch to put the NPLN setup to public use.

Whatever benefits this new setup offers to online players remains to be seen. This seems to be more of a housekeeping thing for Nintendo at this point.
