Dear Reader:
GoNintendo Thought: Our favorite moments from the Nintendo Direct mini
That wraps another week of GoNintendo Thoughts! Hopefully you had fun reading our random features and thoughts. It's so good to be back in the swing with these features! As always, thanks for reading.
Turns out both rumors were true. An Indie World Showcase happened last week, and a Nintendo Direct came around this week. It was a 'mini' Direct, but a Direct nonetheless. It still gave us nearly 30 minutes of all sorts of exciting content heading to Switch.
The Nintendo Direct mini had updates on titles we knew were coming, reveals for brand-new games, and even some surprise launches. There was also a ton of variety in the games shown, which is always a good thing. Hopefully you saw a thing or two in there that you're interested in, because I certainly did! Here's my picks for what caught my eye the most during the Nintendo Direct mini.
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics is my top pick from the entire Nintendo Direct mini, and no, I'm not joking. I have extremely fond memories of the original Clubhouse Games, and I spent countless hours playing the game in local multiplayer with friends. We seriously spent a ridiculous amount of time with the collection, and I know the same thing is going to happen with this sequel. It looks like another mix of old favorites and new games, which is all it needs to be. Plus, it's got its own version of Wii Play's Tanks mini-game! That right there is enough to sell me on the whole package.
Shinsekai: Into the Depths
This game has really intrigued me since it was first revealed for Apple Arcade. I've wanted to give it a go for quite some time now, but boy am I glad I waited. I have no problem playing games on my iPhone, but given the choice, I'd much rather play using a traditional controller/platform. Now I can do that, thanks to the just announced AND released Switch port.
I love that the game has an intense focus on building the feeling of being underwater. The way you move and explore, the color scheme, and especially the audio. It's certainly aiming to create a unique and memorable experience, and I can't wait to...dive in.
2K's Collection explosion
2K's upcoming ports of big-name games may have been the worst kept Switch secret in recent memory, but it's still nice to have an official confirmation. 2K really is going all-out on making sure Switch owners get to experience some of their best titles in recent years, giving us three different collections. Between BioShock, Borderlands, and XCOM, there's an insane amount of fantastic titles to play. These collections will be very welcome on the platform, and give the perfect excuse to catch up if you've missed out on these franchises over the years.
Ninjala
Well I'll be damned! Not only is Ninjala alive and well, it's releasing soon and it looks damn awesome! When the game was first announced, quite a few people thought it would be a Splatoon rip-off. Now years later, there's still a bit of Splatoon style to the game, but the overall experience looks to be carving out its own path. Super-stylish kid ninjas, a variety of unique weapons, and bubble gum special moves? This game is really looking to stand out from the crowd. It also doesn't hurt that the game is free-to-play!
There were plenty of other things in the Nintendo Direct mini that I was interested in and excited about, but those are my top picks. What were your favorite games showcased during the mini? We'd love to hear what got you fired up, and what you can't wait to go hands-on with!
