The Pokémon Bank app on the 3DS will soon become a free-to-play title to coincide with the closing of the 3DS eShop. The predecessor to Pokémon Home, Pokémon Bank allowed players to transfer Pokémon from Game Boy to 3DS for a subscription fee. Soon, that service will be free to everyone with the app, and we have word on a small update to reflect that.

According to Joe Merrick of Serebii, the app will no longer indicate how many days are left in your subscription before you need to renew. Instead, it will show that there are “?XX” days remaining, but that number will simply refresh and cycle through again when it reaches 0. This seems like a reasonable change since, again, there will no longer be any subscription fee required to use Pokémon Bank.

This update will go into effect on or around March 27, 2023 to coincide with the 3DS eShop’s closure. See below for an image of the upcoming change.
