We’ve seen some gameplay and trailers for Sonic Superstars so far, and they’ve showcased Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy and some other familiar faces. Who we haven’t seen is Shadow, and if you’ve been holding out hope for an appearance, it’s time to give up on that notion.

In an interview with Shacknews, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka was asked about Shadow the Hedgehog popping up in Sonic Superstars, and Iizuka was very direct with his answer. Since Sonic Superstars is being developed as a classic-series Sonic game, that means we’re only going to see classic characters. As fans know, Shadow isn’t part of the ‘classic’ series, so he’s being left out of the action.

Iizuka did give a glimmer of hope for Shadow fans moving forward, as he said the team would love to make a project that puts Shadow in the spotlight. Of course, he stopped short of confirming any details on such a project.
