Shiren The Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is coming to Switch on February 27, 2024. This is the latest entry in the roguelike RPG series which has been going since 1995. Unfortunately, Shiren is one of those Japanese game series that took a long time to be brought over to the West. As of today, there are still several Shiren titles from the Game Boy, N64, and Nintendo DS that have never been translated into English.

In a recent interview with Nintendo Life, two of the devs were asked whether or not we might see the release of some of those older titles in the future. Their answer was as follows:

Unfortunately, we have no plans at this time.

[Keisuke Sakurai, Hideyuki Shinozaki, Nintendo Life]

For fans of Shiren the Wanderer in the West, this is a bummer to hear! Perhaps with the continued success of the series this could end up changing, but for now, we’ll have to be grateful for the games we do get official releases for.

Shiren The Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island will be available a week from today on February 27, 2024. Click here to read more about that title’s development.

Spike Chunsoft only has spottily made Shiren games available in America but has released, rereleased, and remade titles for Japan. The only hope the missing Shiren games for international players is if Spike was willing to remake them for a milestone anniversary.

Shiren 1 is about to turn 30 years old, but Spike had already made international versions though I don't know if they'd like to either remake Shiren 1 in 6's engine or just port the DS remake again (the DS remake was ported to mobile just recently in 2019).
