Akira Toriyama, the legendary author of Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, and many more manga has sadly passed away at age 68. An official statement has been provided by the Dragon Ball page:

While Toriyama was most well known for his work on Dragon Ball, he also created artwork and more for games like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger and many others.

Holy cow! I never watched or read Dragon Ball, but this news came as a shock to me. I'll always love and appreciate the work he did on Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger. I suppose he also worked on that Xbox RPG nobody remembers.

He'll certainly remain a beloved and legendary creator in the video game, manga, and anime worlds. And I hope his influence will remain. If the Dragon Quest series suddenly changes its style, I'm not sure I'd like it.
