Decades later, there’s still something new to discover about classic platformer Mega Man X. Thanks to Rockman Corner, some ancient footage has been unearthed of an early promo for the game featured on GamePro TV. Watch this vintage promo for the game below, beginning at the 7:53 mark.

Of course, the final game looks a bit different from this early footage. Most notably, at around the 8:21 timestamp, you can get a glimpse of what seems to be a Maverick boss enemy that was never used in the final game. Or, you can see the images below for a better view.

We unfortunately don’t get a real in-depth look at it, but you can make out some details from both a side portrait and a brief silhouette. Was this an alternate skin for a Maverick that made it into the final game, or a completely different one that went unused? Right now, this video is raising more questions than answers. Still, it’s pretty neat to uncover a never before seen asset from such a widely played title. We’ll have to wait and see if anyone from the Mega Man X team chimes in to shed some light on the situation.

Meanwhile, if you need your Mega Man X fix, the Mega Man X Legacy Collection is available on Nintendo Switch (secret unknown Maverick enemy not included).
