A new cryptocurrency and NFT project revolving around Fortnite has recently cropped up, appropriately named Fortnite Token. This organization refers to itself as being created by fans of Fortnite. The problem is that they don’t appear to have the backing or permission of Epic to use the Fortnite name in any of their products or marketing. Recently, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney took to Twitter to call them out publicly.

Sweeney also responded directly to the Fortnite Token account, stating plainly, “This is a scam”. Whoever runs their Twitter account disagrees, that but their arguments weren’t convincing Tim, who took time to explain that “that’s not how trademarks and copyrights work.”

As of now, Fortnite Token still seems to be fully operational, but it sounds like Epic’s lawyers are already working to put a stop to it. It remains to be seen if Epic has any plans for NFTs or an official form of Fortnite related cryptocurrency. In the meantime, in case anyone was thinking of investing in “Fortnite Token”, this project looks like one to avoid.
