Ocarina of Time Among 2022 Nominees for World Video Game Hall of Fame
Does Link have what it takes to be a hall of famer?
The Strong Museum in Rochester, NY is dedicated to all types of play experiences, and that includes video games! In 2021, they inducted Animal Crossing, Microsoft Flight Simulator, StarCraft, and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego to their ever growing video game hall of fame. In 2022, there’s a new slate of finalists that have been nominated for the honor:
- Assassin’s Creed (2007)
- Candy Crush Saga (2012)
- Dance Dance Revolution (1998)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
- Minesweeper (1990)
- Ms. Pac-Man (1982)
- NBA Jam (1993)
- PaRappa the Rapper (1996)
- Resident Evil (1996)
- Rogue (1980)
- Sid Meier’s Civilization (1991)
- Words with Friends (2009)
Several of these titles have appeared on Nintendo consoles in the past, but of course, it’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that holds the hearts of most Nintendo gamers. It seems like a likely winner, but we’ll find out for sure when the Strong Museum holds their announcement ceremony virtually later this year. 2y agoAmong those nominees I would accept, Ocarina of Time, Civilization, and MineSweeper.
Things like Candy Crush and Words with Friends are just knock-offs.

2y agoIn terms of significance, I think that either Ocarina or Ms. Pac Man deserve it. Also Resident Evil - although it wasn't the first survival horror or best in the series it did serve to popularize the genre.
I dunno. Ms. Pac Man was successful, for sure, but it was also just Midway wanting more Pac-Man money, and its not terribly interesting or important on its own. It's only real claim in the end is being a debatably "better" Pac-Man.
Well it is one of the most successful arcade games of all time. I don't think it beats out Ocarina's contributions to 3D gameplay but I'm also not qualified to speak to Ms Pac Man's gameplay merits. Never been a big arcade game person.

It's not Streets of Rage 4.
