Pokémon's Johto region recreated in Super Mario Galaxy mod

Prolific Nintendo modder RiazorMC has released a video showing off his latest achievement: recreating the entirety of Pokémon Gold and Silver’s Johto region within Super Mario Galaxy. (Actually this mod uses the Heart Gold and Soul Silver remake version as a basis, but it’s no less impressive.) RiazorMC gives a thorough tour of the area in the above video, and it’s an extremely faithful recreation.

Although the setting and camera angle aren’t what you’d find in the original game, Mario retains his moveset from Super Mario Galaxy in this mod, bouncing and hopping over forests and past Pokémon Centers with ease. Although there aren’t any actual Pokémon in sight, Mario is sporting a Johto themed outfit and is able to capture a Staryu at the end of the level.

There’s currently no way for fans to experience this mod for themselves, but the video gives a pretty good idea of what it’s all about. Check it out for a fun dose of nostalgia and an excuse to listen to Super Mario Galaxy’s excellent music again.
