In the lead-up to Overwatch 2’s launch, Blizzard shared a number of details on what players would need to do in order to play. Included in the list of requirements was a phone number, as Blizzard wants to try and minimize cheating and troublemakers in general with Overwatch 2. Unfortunately, this decision seems to have blocked legit players as well.

With the launch of Overwatch 2, those with prepaid phone plans have found out the hard way that their service won’t work with Overwatch 2. Upon trying to sign up for the game, it’s revealed that prepaid phone numbers and VOIP numbers won’t work with the game’s SMS Protect setup.

Some lucky players have found that their prepaid phone plan/service provider does work with Overwatch 2, but it seems to be a bit of a crap shoot. If you have a prepaid phone plan, you’ll have to try signing up for the game to see if it works. As of this time, Blizzard has not commented on the matter, nor have they shared a solution.
