Digital Foundry's tech review of Persona 5 Royal's new release
Every frame includes a certain amount of hype
The tech wizards at Digital Foundry strike again with a meaty breakdown of Persona 5 Royal’s new multi-platform release. The breakdown includes every new version including Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC. But given the site you’re currently on, let’s breakdown a few of the Nintendo Switch version’s highlights:
- Despite the large file size cutbacks - the visuals retain most of the intended effects.
- Resolutions - Docked: 1440x810 and Handheld: 960x540
- Framerate: A completely stable 30 FPS (based on the first 8 hours)
- Short loading times
- Small animation issues were present during recording but seem to be gone as of the recent Switch firmware update
Overall it seems like SEGA took a lot of care in making sure Persona 5 Royal runs consistently well on Nintendo Switch. Other Atlus titles do run at slightly higher resolutions but at the caveat of inconsistent framerates. Overall this seems like a great conversion to Switch and is a great way to experience the iconic JRPG.
