Jeremy Parish is back once again with another installment in his NES Works series. This time around, Parish takes a look at an NES game that you’re most likely familiar with, and one that never got to see release outside of Japan.

The NES games spotlighted in today’s video are Spelunker and Star Luster. Spelunker was obviously a huge influence on Spelunky, a franchise that wouldn’t have existed without the NES original. As for Star Luster, it’s a space combat simulator that only released in Japan, and it struggled to find an audience. Only years later would the game find a niche following for its impressive visuals and overall presentation.

It’s crazy to think that for every NES game know all about, there’s another that never had the chance to shine worldwide. That’s why series like this from Mr. Parish are well worth a watch!
