U.S. NPD Oct. 2022: Top 20 software, top hardware, and more

The official numbers for the videogame industry in the United States have come in, and it was another hot month. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope performed exceptionally well, as did Bayonetta 3. • Total spending: $4.27 billion, flat year-on-year
• Software: $3.7 billion, up 2%
• Hardware: $424 million, down 10%
• Accessories: $148 million, down 8%

• Total spending: $42.7 billion, down 7% year-on-year
• Software: $37.2 billion, down 8%
• Hardware: $3.8 billion, down 2%
• Accessories: $1.7 billion, down 12%

• Dollar sales of video game hardware fell 10% in October when compared to a year ago
• PlayStation 5 was the best-selling video game hardware of October in both unit and dollar sales
• October video game content sales grew 2% vs YA
• Eight of the top 20 best-selling premium games of October 2022 were new releases
• Accessories spending in October declined 8% when compared to a year ago
