The Smash World Tour 2022 finals cancellation has been stirring up all sorts of discussion and vitriol since last week, and it appears the mess is going to continue this week as well. Following the event’s cancellation and comments from Nintendo, SWT and Panda Global, we’ve learned that Panda Global’s CEO is stepping away from the company.

For those who don’t know, Panda Global and Nintendo are working together on official Smash Bros. tournaments, but last week there were accusations that Panda Global reps were going around behind the scenes to dissuade Nintendo from working with other companies, Smash World Tour included.

In a statement released today, it’s revealed that Panda chief executive officer Alan Bunney has stepped down, and the Panda Cup Finale has been postponed due to security concerns for staff and contractors. You can see Panda Global’s full statement below.

Knowing fandoms, they were probably getting threats however that usually tends to be all bark and not something you'd think a well protected CEO couldn't handle. There's probably more to the story that we'll never know but regardless I'm sure this will cause a lot more problems for any future smash tournaments.

@noxide

The CEO was being accused of using his position as leverage to bully lesser Smash tournaments into ceasing operations or joining Panda Global. It's unknown if the CEO had misled Nintendo during the time.
