Believe it or not, the No More Heroes franchise is now 15 years old! In honor of the anniversary, No More Heroes creator Suda51 has shared a look at some original concept art for Travis Touchdown, and it reveals a few interesting tidbits.

First up, you see that Travis is sporting somewhat of a different look. The Travis we know and love is definitely in there, but he’s not quite as youthful in appearance. You’ll also note that Travis is seen holding a gun in the hand opposite his beam katana. Looks like that element ended up getting cut early in development.

The concept art also includes some flavor text to describe who Travis is and what he’s all about. That’s where some fun references to Star Wars come up, along with some other details. You can read the machine-translated blurbs below.

“Modern Jedi Master ‘Luke’. Danshiya ‘Luke’. His real name is Travis Touchdown. A geek and a thug of the hitman business, I will take on any boring killing. There is no creed at all. I go to the mall four times a week. In other words, if you don’t have work, you don’t have time, and you don’t have friends.”

“He runs danshi [boy?] with homemade sabers. All [of] his weapons, Naomi is making. He is currently ranked 11th in the UAA rankings. Fanatical fan of Japanese anime, especially the witch system is a favorite. Now I love it. I love T-shirts.”

While Suda dropped the Star Wars nickname for obvious legal reasons, the rest of the blurb certainly reads like the Travis we know and love. Looks like Suda had all the important bits of Travis’ character nailed down early!
