The cat got out of the bag last night on this, but now it’s official. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Nintendo’s first game to see a base price of $70.

Late yesterday, the Nintendo.com listing for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom showed a price of $70. A few other retailers followed along with that, and then everyone removed the price. Now we know that price was posted a few hours earlier than expected.

Nintendo has now confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be priced at $70. No matter whether you go physical or digital, you’re not going to be able to get a better deal than that. Whether we like it or not, here comes the era of $70 Nintendo titles.

If I had to guess, the price is due to the game probably requiring a 32 GB Switch card. BotW came in at around 14 GB on a 16 GB card and I can't imagine all the time spent developing TotK only added 2 extra GB of content.

Not counting Ring Fit Adventure ;)
It’s about time US gamers paid similar as Europe where BOTW is €70 :)

If it helps anyone stomach it better, $60 in 2012 (when Nintendo first sold $60 games) was equivalent to over $76 in 2022 dollars.

Edit:
Also, Pikmin 4 is $60 per Nintendo.com, so it's at least not every game going forward.

I blame getting the vouchers back in the US. The price increase means nothing to our digital only folks

While it was available, the UK store said it was over 18GB download.

I think my Amazon pre-order price is locked it at $59.99

Weird you can still use the vouchers for it, extra good deal

I'm thinking Amazon is gonna pull some crap. I forgot the game I had preordered where the price increased, but Amazon cancelled my lower-priced preorder and other folks due to "lack of availability" and put up a new listing, all so they wouldn't have to honor the lower price for everyone who preordered.

@tendonin

My (and i have to imagine many others) raises haven't matched the unchecked inflation since then so it doesn't really make it any easier on my stomach unfortunately

I'd pay 100 for it. People complaining are weird. It's relative but 70 is normal for games in Sweden already.
