Metroid Prime 2, 3 once again rumored for Switch release
Here we go again!
We went through literally years of speculation and rumors about Metroid Prime coming to the Switch, but last week we saw rumor become truth, as Metroid Prime Remastered made its way to the Switch eShop. Here we are, less than a week after Metroid Prime Remastered launched, and we’re back talking about Metroid rumors again.
Industry insider Jeff Grubb is back at it again, this time saying that both Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are going to make their way to Switch at some point in the future. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this rumor, nor is it the first time Grubb has talked about it, but the discussion is cropping up again now that Metroid Prime Remastered is available.
According to the rumor, these titles will not be fully remastered as Metroid Prime was, so expect something closer to the original, albeit with a much better resolution. I guess it’s time to reset the Metroid rumor clock and see how long it takes for things to strike midnight this time!
I wonder what he will shave if he's wrong this time...
Joking aside, I hope these graphically are at least relatively close to the new remaster's quality, as it really is quite impressive.
I mean this is less of a “rumour” and more of an obvious guess. It’s like rumouring about Golden Sun 2 coming to NSO GBA considering we know the first game is coming.
That said, I don’t think we’ll see Prime 2 and 3. I think we’ll see Prime 4 before either of them and it won’t have the numeral in its title.
I don't think I can go back to the old control scheme after dual analog. Hopefully they can add that at least. They have to do something to Prime 3 anyways to accommodate non-motion controls, right?
This is just a guess from Mr. Grubb, maybe with a little bit more information than the normal person has. He's heard early Prime Remaster sales info, or just is speculating based on the online engagement, and has made another prediction. Not a hard prediction to make, to be honest, based on the Remaster reception.
I'm going to make a prediction here and say that Grubb is correct, but there are nuances to his comments that he hasn't talked about.
I think 2&3 will use the same engine, framework and control options that Prime 1 remastered does. However, the big difference will be that the visuals won't be remastered to the extent that Prime 1. Prime was was essentially a complete visual overhaul, but 2&3 will be more upscaled textures on the same geometry, but with updated models, UI and lighting changes where appropriate. Lots less extensive, but still good looking overall.
My reasoning? Iron Galaxy will be the main developer handling these with Retro supervising. Heck, they might already be done or close to done at this point if Prime Remastered really did finish in 2021. I don't think we'll have to wait very long to find out.
That makes zero sense. 2 and 3 will be out prior to 4, and yes it will have a numeral…you know…BECAUSE NINTENDO ALREADY TOLD US IT’S METROID PRIME 4.
They’ve given a working title almost 6 years ago. They’ve changed working titles before.
Prime 1s remaster is no guarantee that 2 and 3 will release on Switch. I think it makes perfect sense to release a remaster of arguably the best game in the series, remind people about Prime and encourage new players to the series before Prime “4”.
Releasing 2 and 3 will create fatigue and since they’re arguably weaker games, make people less interested in “4”.
Jeff has been saying there would be a full Prime remaster with more standard 2&3 ports later for ages
He also said it’d be the Wii trilogy ported. I take his word with a grain of salt to be honest. I don’t think there’s much “insider” knowledge there.
He’s also one to say Wind Waker and Twilight Princess will release on Switch and then said he “misheard” when they didn’t show as he expected.
makes less than zero sense to remaster the first one to such great levels it's getting universal praise and then skimp on the remasters/ports of 2 and 3.
It's not like 2 and 3 don't need the graphical upgrade 1 did. They all pretty much look identical (before anyone argues I know the 3 looks marginally better than the first 2)

Please save these for Switch 2, Metroid Prime looks great but makes me wonder how much better it could have looked made on stronger hardware.
