Every year, Pokemon trainers aim to show off their skills in officially-sanctioned battles. 2022 will certainly bring fierce competition with it, and that goes for the traditional Pokemon Championships, as well as an all-new way to battle. Check out the details on these Japanese events below.

Pokémon Battle Master

  • players have to show their skills at both the TCG and the Video Games
  • you have to earn enough points to enter and participate in a final competition
  • video games will be entered through an online competition in June
  • battles use Sword & Shield in the Single Battle format
  • players also need to have Pokémon HOME installed and linked to a Nintendo Account
  • for the TCG, points are earned from April through June
  • points can be earned via the City League and Trainers League events throughout Japan
  • after participating in both, you send in a form with your points to try and qualify

Pokémon Japan Championships 2022

  • this event selects players in Japan to play at the Pokémon World Championships 2022
  • Japan Championships will run in person on June 11th and June 12th 2022
  • for video games, the top 150 players in the International Challenge February, March, and April Online Competitions as well as the Pokémon Japan Championships Qualifier online competition in June will be invited
  • this event runs in Swiss format until the finals, which will be Single Elimination
  • for TCG, the top players in the Champions League competitions in Kyoto, Fukuoka, Aichi and Yokohama, as well as players with the highest CSP ranking will earn an invite
  • the format is Standard
  • for Pokémon GO, the top players in special Online qualifiers on April 28th, April 30th and May 8th, as well as winners of competitions in Pokémon Centers across Japan from April 23rd to May 15th will be able to enter
  • the ruleset is Great League format with a Swiss format until finals, which will be single elimination
