Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series came to Switch a few months back, giving newcomers and fans alike a chance to play revamped versions of both Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil. Thanks to a new interview with the dev team, we now know that Switch was the target for this re-release from day one.

In an interview with Lost in Cult magazine, producer Ryo Ishida revealed that development of Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series first started on Switch. We often see developers target PS4/5 or Xbox Series X/S with their games and then port to Switch, but the Klonoa team felt Switch was the best place to start for the franchise’s return.

The […] platform we happened to start development on was Switch. Around the time we completed the Switch version, we were presented with the opportunity to put it on Nintendo Direct and, consequently, [reveal the existence of the collection] to a worldwide audience. We thought that [this was] an excellent medium for spreading information and awareness among game fans, because that’s where game announcements are actively [anticipated]. So, we were very grateful for that opportunity.

That's honestly kind of hard to believe considering how poorly the Switch version runs. Usually when a platform is the target for development, the game is optimized for that platform.
