Miyamoto says 'nothing to announce' in the near future with more Nintendo movies
It's not quite time to talk about that yet
Now that the Super Mario Bros. movie is available in theaters, fans are already wondering what’s next for Nintendo. Could we see a Mario movie sequel down the line, or is it time for a Legend of Zelda film? How about a Metroid movie? Well, if any of that is happening, it sounds like it won’t be for quite some time.
Game Informer had a chance to talk to Shigeru Miyamoto about the Super Mario Bros. movie, but they also asked him about what other Nintendo franchises would make sense for a cinematic adaptation. While Miyamoto certainly hints that more Nintendo movies will come around, it doesn’t sound like they’ll be happening soon.
You probably know that we have Nintendo Pictures now as a group. Whenever we create games, that’s one form of content. And when we create animation, that’s another form of content. And we want to continue to expand the amount of content that we can produce. In terms of announcing or sharing anything, I try to hold off until there’s something really good and enjoyable. So, there’s probably nothing to announce in the near future, so I ask you to put all your focus in this movie currently. [Laughs]
It will always come down to the box office return on investment, but I can’t see them not doing a Mario sequel as the next movie either.
