Octopath Traveler came to the Switch all the way back in 2018, and the sequel just launched a couple of months ago. Not surprisingly, that’s been enough time for most players to work their way through the second outing, and now they’re hungry for more. The question is, will the series continue?

Famitsu Magazine just shared a feature with Octopath Traveler II director Keisuke Miyauchi, producer Masashi Takahashi, and artist Naoki Ikushima, and the topic of the series’ future came up. While nothing is locked in for what comes next, it does seem like there’s been a bit of discussion.

According to Miyauchi, the developers have had some ‘casual chats’ about what they could do with another installment in the Octopath Traveler series. It’s noted that the first game was wholly original, while the follow-up was more of an evolution, rather than a whole new direction. If there is another entry in the series down the road, the team would once again deliberate over whether an evolution or complete overhaul would be the way to go.

I absolutely love this series! I’m most of the way through 2, and I actually feel like the devs are selling it short by just calling it an “evolution”. While it may not be a complete overhaul, it has a LOT of new mechanics, both in the battles and exploration. It’s a much bigger game than the first, and the characters in your party interact a lot more, addressing one of the main complaints people had about the original.
Having nearly finished it, I’m already looking forward to what Team Asano can come up with next for the Octopath series!
