Just yesterday, Bitwave Games, a video game publisher and developer specializing in retro entertainment and part of Embracer Freemode, announced that the long-awaited platformer classic Gimmick! Special Edition will be jumping onto the Switch eShop starting July 6, 2023. We also learned that a physical release was in the works, and now we have full details thanks to Limited Run Games.

There will be two physical versions of Gimmick! Special Edition, and pre-orders for both are set to open May 16th, 2023. The standard release is priced at $35 and gets you a physical game box and game card, while the Collector’s Edition is $75 and includes the following:

  • Physical Copy of Gimmick! Special Edition for Nintendo Switch with Reversible Cover Collector’s Edition Box
  • Gimmick! Special Edition Original 2 Disc Soundtrack with a retro cart styled CD case
  • Yumetaro Plush
  • Retro Cartridge Keychain
  • Enamel Pin

Also available May 16th, 2023 is the Gimmick! Vinyl Soundtrack release. This is a classic representation of Masashi Kageyama’s sublime score for the 8-bit generation while also standing alone as an awe-inspiring piece of work in its own right. That those lucky enough to have enjoyed the game in days gone by will also get a kick from the nostalgia value is just the cherry on top.

Available on vinyl for the first time, this limited edition LP features artwork by Mushbuh, liner notes from game journalist Anthony John Agnello and an exclusive interview with composer Masashi Kageyama! The album can be picked up for $30.

If you’d like to get a closer look at the Gimmick! Special Edition physical releases or vinyl album, you can find them all here.
