Mineko’s Night Market has been in development for 8 years
From kitten to adult cat
Those waiting for Mineko’s Night Market have needed quite a bit of patience. The game was revealed for Switch all the way back in 2018, but the wait will finally come to an end on Sept. 26th, 2023.
While fans have been waiting 5 long years for the game to arrive, it turns out the team behind the project has been toiling away considerably longer. Obviously games are in development for a decent chunk of time prior to their announcement, but in an interview with Siliconera, developer Brandi Kobayashi shows just how far back the game’s inception was.
The earliest we started experimenting was around 2015-2016. For the first few years, it remained a side project while we had other full time commitments. By 2017, we debuted our first demo at Day of the Devs at GDC. Through the years, the project has seen many design iterations before we finally settled on what it ended up becoming. Mineko’s Night Market first ended up brought up online back in January 2017.
