Resident Evil 4 has received an insane amount of ports to different platforms following its original release on the GameCube. It also recently received a full-on remake for PS4/5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. One might think that’s more than enough conversions of Resident Evil 4, but one fan feels different.

Rather than take the remake approach, modder DooMero has taken on the task of a Resident Evil 4 demake. Instead of reworking the original game in 3D once again, DooMero has chosen the interesting approach of a 2D side-scroller.

While Resident Evil 4 no doubt plays differently from a locked side-scrolling position than a 3D outing, all the things that made the game great are here. You’re fighting off ‘zombies,’ you’re kicking them when they’re down, you’re collecting ammo and exploring some deadly locations. It’s pretty impressive to see just how much of the fun and vibe of the original Resident Evil 4 has been retained for this retro demake.

While the project isn’t done just yet, it should be nearing completion sometime in the near future. So long as Capcom doesn’t shut the project down, we’ll let you know when it sees release.

You can tell that they put in a lot of work, the combat seems a bit cumbersome though.
