Charles Martinet not involved with Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Bye-bye, Charles
Earlier today, Nintendo revealed the shocking news that Charles Martinet will no longer be voicing Mario, or any Mario-related characters for that matter. Many were wondering when exactly Martinet’s stepping-down would take place, and it appears it’s immediate.
When the first trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder released, some people questioned what was up with Mario’s voice. Some keen-eared fans thought that Mario sounded a tad different from what Martinet usually does, and now we know they were right. Nintendo has since confirmed that Charles is not lending his voice talents to the game, as confirmed in a statement below. (h/t GameXplain)
While Charles is not involved in the game, we’re excited to honor his legacy and contributions, include looking ahead to what he’ll be doing as a Mario Ambassador. Character voice actors will be credited in the game credits, so please wait for the game to be released.
As for who is handling the voice of Mario and the other characters Martinet usually tackles, we’ll just have to wait for Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s release to find out!

1M agoThe people who noticed the voice difference were right.
I didn't notice the voice difference in the trailers until people were already pointing it out and scrutinizing it, so I'm impressed. And I'm really curious to hear our new Mario more fully.

1M agoMartinet's last line in the Mario movie saying he's proud of Mario and Luigi.
Man...it feels like it was intentional and they knew then that he was done after it.
Charles Martinet will always be Mario to me.
Whoever has made the voices already is doing a fantastic job maintaining the spirit.
I honestly could not spot the difference so that only means it's going to sound just as fine if not maybe better.

1M agoIt's not exactly difficult imitate those few lines he made in games, but it can't be the exact same either.
Wonder looks great though.
