Mortal Kombat 1's single-player Invasion mode detailed
Like Mario Party...but much more violent
We learned of Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasion mode through a blurb on the back of the game’s box, but we’ve been in the dark about gameplay details ever since. That’s all changed today, as a complete breakdown of the mode has come around, thanks to some hands-on sessions for various press members.
Invasion mode is described as a Mario Party-esque board game that’s meant for single-player play. Players will choose a character and work their way through various branching paths, with each route offering new challenges. These challenges includes battles, minigames and treasures, and each will have a different modifier to spice up the experience.
One area you’ll visit in particular is Johnny Cage’s mansion, which includes a cinema room, a demon-infested balcony and a dojo. Johnny Cage will make comments as you travel through the mansion, and longtime fans will be able to spot all sorts of references and in-jokes throughout the mansion while exploring.
NetherRealm says that players will be able to collect different talismans for working on different loadouts, and Invasion mode will rotate on a six-week seasonal basis, each with a new theme based on the invading force.
