Hideo Kojima loves to fill his games with secrets, references and Easter eggs. There have been many of those throughout the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and it turns out the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will retain one such Easter egg system that fans will no doubt remember.

Anyone who played Metal Gear Solid back in the day will remember one particular element of the fight against Psycho Mantis. For those who don’t know, Psycho Mantis has the ability to read minds, and he used that power not only against Snake, but the player as well. Psycho Mantis would use his power to read off save data from games players had on their memory cards. This worked in both the PS1 and GameCube versions of MGS.

Turns out Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will retain this feature, albeit through virtual methods. Players will be able to make a faux memory card for Psycho Mantis to read, and it includes a list of titles that Psycho could pick up on back in the day. The Japanese list of save data includes titles like Snatcher, Policenauts and more.

We’re not sure what virtual save data will be included in the English version of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, but it’s nice to know this neat Easter egg will be retained for this collection.
